I'm just happy to know you wouldn't move south then tease us! LOL It's lovely. Does it smell good?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Would I tease you Chele? I'll have to go out and see if it smells good. Of course, the wind is blowing like crazy today so I may not be able to tell!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Oh yes you would! LOL Palms on one forum, this here....hmmm, what else did I see? LOL Really, you know I am very happy for you!!! And jealous! ;)

Mine is inside all the time, don't notice much of a smell, but bloom is pretty.

They always said it had to be potbound before blooming. Doesn't look like yours' is potbound Susie. Looks like a free spirit?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Yes, it's a free spirit. Everyone here plants them in their flower beds. It was in a pot before I put it in the ground, but I wouldn't say it was too pot bound. My orange ones though, I left in the same pots for years. They were so pot bound they had roots coming out the top, bottom and would have come out the sides if there had been a hole in the pot!

Mine is growing well, but no signs of a bloom yet. I suppose I've got another year to wait.

Mine is 8 years old, bloomed three times, so looking for blooms again, anytime. I separated it, so set it back some. I now have two yellow plants, about 3' x 3' each. Need a bigger house!

Hi everyone...I have a question...about this..Mine is blooming right now..Orange one..it bloomed last year..maybe about the same time..inside..by the way...the seeds..from last years bloom are still on it...still green as can be...How long till I can harvest the seeds..I did it once before...the seeds were turning red...I planted the seeds...one sprouted ...but I must have watered it too much and it died..crazy...that it is blooming with the old seeds so green...also...the plant...seems to have a baby...that is about 6-7 inches...from the bottom of the main plant...????? I think mine, I have had for about 3 years..it was adult one..when I bought it... Mystery to me for sure...anyone know????

The seeds do take a long time to ripen. I leave them till they are dark red, then clean off the red stuff and a large, white hard seed is inside. I plant it barely covered with potting soil and they sometimes come up fast and sometimes take a long time. They take 3 or more years to bloom from seed. They need to be warm to germinate and overwatering will make them rot.
I only separate the babies from the mother plant if I want them planted somewhere else, or to share. I had one that grew in the same pot with lots of babies for over 10 years. It always had 5 or more bloom stalks and did great till I let it get too cold one winter.

These seedlings were planted about a year ago, maybe a little over a year. They are in 4 inch pots, the same pots I sowed them in.

Hehehe...great thanks for the information. I thought the seeds would change faster then that...hehehe...I think they are liking...staying with the mom..that is all..hehe I will wait on them...and the baby, near the bottom stem..ahhhh...how do I separate it...not now..but??? just cut it though?...alway more questions..sorry...

Smiles..

Diana, when I separate them, I take the whole plant out of the pot and work the long roots out so I can see which roots go with which plant. I shake off as much dirt as I can, then I take the point of a big knife and prize the baby free from the mother plant, be careful and don't cut yourself though. I try not to do that too often because I read somewhere that they might not bloom for a year or more after you divide them.

Ah, thanks...Calalily
~~~~~I will just leave for now...will do it later in the summer...most helpful...smiles..
This is quite a job, separating these plants. Time consuming and need lots of muscle power! Roots are all over, entwined.
Very nice! I want a yellow one too. My orange one is blooming in the house right now. Too bad I can't let mine be a "free spirit" LOL.
