Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

this is what I have tried to discribe to you ,these are pictures taken up in Oswego which is about 20 miles from me.I don't know how Birdsall got them....But most of Oswego county (where I live)looks like this.....

LAKE EFFECT!!!!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh my gosh Karyn, how can you stand it. The snow must almost have your house covered from the ground up. That looks horrible.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

That picture makes it look REALLY bad but those are snow banks that were piled up in the first place...then they had to bring in the monster snowblowers that made them even higher....Its not that high behind the snowbanks, but its tough at intersections, you can't see whats coming......

The snow compresses, and partially melts so it isen't that high now......but when I fell off the roof last week (while shoveling) I landed in snow up to my neck........good thing I'm not any shorter.......

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL,I'm looking on Net for pictures, I have seen,in the UP of Mi.some houses have doors on the second floor, for getting out in winter.

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow, CC that is a lot of snow!
You actually drive wiggle wagons in that mess. I'm so glad it isn't me, I like to drive on pavement only.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Call me dumb CC....... but can you explain the meaning of lake effect again? I know you did already once for me but I am menaupausal!

Thank God you did not go head first. You would be dead!!! So how did you get out? I doubt you could walk in such deep snow!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

this link explains it better than me
http://web.syr.edu/~wrt405/normal/Lake_Effect.html

north of Syracuse gets hit the worst, like Syracuse got 79 inches in tha last storm ,we got 127 inches and the cities of Oswego and Fulton got way more than that...

when the winds go across the lakes we know we're in trouble......cause we get it from Lake Erie and Superior too ,it just adds to ours from Ontario......

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Dang it,I was sitting in the back of class with my hand up!
Pick me !!!!!!
Kell these storms start out in Az.,they cruise across the US,dump there moisture on the midwest, they do not lose intensity,it is just when they get cruising across the lakes, which are 90 miles across and 400 miles long, they pick up much needed moisture for a good storm.
If you take time to look at a picture of the Great lakes, you will see why it is the north coast, they are spectacular!Huge and ominous!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Good for you CC, that the snow pile was high enough, otherwise, you might have gotten hurt.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Ya know ,I probably shoulda been scared.....but when it happened I was laughing.....I knew how much snow was down there....and it wasnt that hard to crawl out..
Kell, you're right,if it had been head first I woulda been in trouble, especially since I was by myself......

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

bless your heart CC----------n I whine cuz I have frost on window......wishin yall some greeen grass,n leaves n stuff. cheryl

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Those are some photos Karyn. I can only remember one year when we would of had snow like that down here in the southern part of MI. I better not say that too loud. I do have tons of lakes around me so I do get more than others around me.

Glad you didn't hurt yourself.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Brrr . . too cold for me. I just can't imagine so much snow. Glad you were not hurt when you fell off the roof Karyn. I did not even realize that was something that needed to be done during your winter.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

OMG CC!! Those are awesome pictures. I had to show them to DH.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Thank God you are ok CC! That definately does not look fun!
