I got this from a farmer's market 2-3 months ago. I really would like to get it in the ground, but not sure where to put it. Now it's blooming again, got 3 more buds after these 3. So I have to make a decision soon. Help please
:^) Molly
When can I plant this?
Nice Dat Molly ! I have yet to find a place they will not grow here sun/shade wise... Just make sure to not put it in any low spots that collect water for few hours in the rainy season as they can not take it.. There is one that likes to be flooded but can not think of the name right now ... HTH
I would imagine you want to wait until all danger of frost has passed, but I'm sure someone here can help you better than I...
Thanks Kaufman, Where are you? I am in Ft Lauderdale Florida and there is never any danger of frost here. LOL

I am one of those people the northerners would like to tar and feather for having flowers blooming right now and being in the garden with shorts and sun glasses and a cold beer.......and am I rubbing it in properly all? hehe
:^) Molly
Hey, I may have 30 inches of snow that has accumulated on my back deck the last tweleve days but I can still put on the shorts, sunglasses, and put down some cold brews.
....'course I'll have to draw the shades and do it in the livingroom. You do know how to rub it in, I had a fender bender last week and I'd give anything to be rid of winter!
My mistake for not looking at your locaton :-O I would then say put the little beauty in the ground! I would think you'll have no problems.....sheesh! I wish I could find things like that at the Farmer's Market -- Lucky you!!!
MollyMc, looks like you have a Datura, can't quite see if it is double or single from the photo. But no matter, you can plant it now. Mine is in a pot and in the house. I put it out when the days are nice which is most of the time....you should have no problems with it in the ground in your area.....

John....Oh no, oh no, I might have to turn my a/c off. lol :^) Molly
Merigold, sorry to hear that. It'll get better.....in what....2....3 months. Hope you didn't get hurt in the accident tho.
Willow, I think its a double, if that means double bloom in one. And thank you.
And wait, I'll post another picture of this little boobie I saw on the plant this morning. Maybe you can tell me what it is.
Oh to live where there is no frost!!!!!
John you may have to put long pants on!!!!
I agree,I'd put it in a dry location,at least one with minimum standing water,LOL!
Molly yours sure looks good,it should do very well for you!
Personally,I would pull all the blooms and buds when I planted it,this will put it in a growth mode.you will have a nice bush very soon.
They do like to be Dead-headed,and will put out a few blooms per day, pretty much continuously.
Hey root, your brugs are fraternizing with your dats. If they started dating, they wouldn't know whether to grow up or down......Dead heading sounds like a good idea now. This plant is just a touch leggy. But before I do that, what's this thing behind this leaf?
When I tried to get closer, it just got blurry....can ya see it when you enlarge here?
IS that a seed pod? If so, what do I do now?
That is a seedpod,I'd pull it,you will have TONS!
When root, right now, later? then what? Tell me all you know!!!!!lol
This is just my opinion,I have grown Dats long before I started Brugs.Dats like it drier, some say they don't like too much fert,I'm not sure on this,I run soaker hoses,so everything gets same water and fert.
I'd pull blooms and buds and pods now.that is MHO.
take a look at the rootball,if it has been cramped up,be sure to loosen it,take back a little top growth if you want.sometimes they get Ferted up in GH before going to market, that puts the blooms on that makes them sell,so don't fertilize it.
Looks like you have D.Metel to me,or Triple, what a Beaut!
Blooms won't last long.and you must catch them the first day to smell them,or they tend to have a musty smell.
I would wait awhile before I pulled it. If you pull it to soon then the seeds may not be ready and you won't have good seeds.....
I let mine crack a little before I pull them....
Dee
If it were mine, I would remove the pod. You have all summer to get pods for next year's seeds. I'm a good one for removing flowers in early spring. When I buy annuals at the greenhouse, I remove the flowers when I set them in the garden. They will bulk up better and faster and then have more blooms when I really want them. This is just how I do it. Everyone has to do what works for them.
i agree with Brugie. take off the seed pod right now!!! allowing the seed pod to stay in my opinion will take off energy off the plant, which will eventually weaken the plant. do not worry u will have plenty of time for the seeds to form later in the summer. u want/need a vigorous plant to grow on the ground.
once u transplant the plant on the ground, it will grow vigorously and give u plenty of blooms to form seeds later on. jmo. others have their own ideas of growing datura.
Brugmania, you are perhaps thinking of D. ceratocaula, which grows naturally in swampy conditions.
Rootdoctor,
What does a triple look like? This plant puts off a double layer bloom at the outer edge and then there is a smaller one down inside. When the bloom is fresh, the one down inside is more defined. Double or triple?
Thanks,
Molly
Well gee whiz Root, I think the triple definately describes mine.I need to go out in the daylight tomorrow and take a pic of the fresh bloom to clarify it tho.
thanks
Molly
Beautiful, beautiful Debby & Root. I'll get that picture at first light.
:^)
Molly
Wow Debby, what a nice shot, you will have to give me some tips at the round-up,tell Ted I am feeding his Nana!

Hi Molly,
That looks great.. so do all the other pictures.. A
My datura seeds are just now nicely germinating. Some seeds I bought and some Root very kindly sent to me. So it will be a long time before I see any blooms. Donna
the photos of the blooms are very pretty, hope I get a yellow like that triple. Donna
You know Donna,it was not until today, when I was dusting ,that i noticed on the back of your card,it was your sisters.very nice,I look at your sunrise all the time!
Root: Ted is excited about the Nana you have for him. Glad you are feeding it.
I had to get on my knees to get that shot and very close to the plant. What we don't do to get a good shot of our flowers.
When I first mentioned to Ted that i wanted a Digital Camera, I said I wanted one to take pics of my flowers. He about came unglued--couldn't believe it. He thought I would want it to take family pics. Oh, I have taken a few pics of family members, but mostly [95%] of my flowers.LOL..
