Computer that freezes up a lot

I sure hope someone here can help me. My PC will randomly freeze and will not shut down properly at times even when it isn't frozen. When it restarts Scandisk comes on but it can never get through. It re-starts more than 10 times and still can't get through. I've run spy-bot and X-cleaner to no avail. I've also deleted tons of games and pictures, but it still freezes. Any advice on what I can do?
