EDIT/Addition:
Ok, the begging is officially OVER! Thank you all - between the stuff I asked for and got and the extras everyone threw in, and the plants I'm going to be getting at the swap, I am busily trying to figure out how to blend it all together instead of sadly gazing out at an empty bed. I will be posting pictures later - I have to get it all in and then I have to borrow a camera.
Molly, I cannot believe the huge box I received from you! Wow! Sorry I didn't post here or write an email sooner, still getting over being sick right now. I *love* the landscape plan you included. Unfortunately, between the pond and the arbor it won't quite work as written, but I'm going to incorporate some of the ideas.
Ecobioangie, thanks for all the plants and extra seeds! I hope you won't mind terribly much if I trade some of the seed packets (I'm hoping you wont, please don't tell me I hurt your feelings!)
Original Message:
I have an almost completely empty yard, which is better than when I first bought this house (all weeds and holes and lumps) and have almost nothing to trade, so I am shamelessly begging for SASE seeds and plants (or make a suggestion?) I'm hoping some of the good plant-sharing Karma from before I moved to Florida is still out there -
I have listed a lot of wanted items on my TradeList, and of course if you have anything spare NOT on my list please go ahead and email me or post here!
Zone 9b, according to the maps, but I'll zone-push a little.
Thanks in advance - and thanks for taking the time to read this even if you don't have extras to share!

CLOSED: Shameless Begging
I can send some plants your way come this spring, their still all dormant now, I have over 30 varieties of mints growing here, I can send rooted divisions of quite a few of them. for SASE. I don't send plants for SASE that often, but we all have to start off somewhere and someone helped me get started.
kathy_ann
email me in spring i can send you some orange daylilies if you would like them? and others not sure what will come back but you can email me to remind me ok
Hey Killer,
If you think it would be okay at this time I could send you:
shasta 'becky'
coreopsis 'early sunrise'
achillea - mixed unknown
creeping phlox - pink
My ground is cold but diggable and I know you are okay weather wise. I also have seeds SASE. Look at my list.
ecobioangie
You might want to be careful with mints in zone 9b, here in 8b/9a they are very invasive.
Ah, but the wonderful smell of mints when you brush up against them is worth the effort. I have had to use roundup to get rid of a bed that had really got outta control but it did take care of the problem.
Send me your addy I have some seeds to send. And maybe I can send you some bare rooted stuff....LMK
I love your name.....LOL...I've known a few in my time....
Dee
I have one mint, a common spearmint, and its in a container off my patio. I love mints though - applemint would be nice to have. I didn't even think about the spearmint - going to list it for trade (outgoing.)
ecobioangie, I emailed you - thanks much!
I had 4 different kind of mints I put into my kitchen garden. They weren't at all invasive. As a matter of fact they were so uninvasive, they died. Oh well. The rest of the herbs did very well. Killer, check your email please.
Molly
I have a few unnamed hostas I can send...
Molly,
If you want to try mint again I can send you some. Work in compost and water it... lots. Under the hose spigot is good if your hose connection leaks a little.
Let me know -
Tracy
(watching inbox but email hasn't arrived yet - slow email server I guess.)
WillowWasp, you have mail.
No Killer, it wasn't the mail serverLOL, ot was me, I got distracted and was putting one last thing in my store. YOu have mail now.
MOlly
Got your e-mail Killer...(LOL...) I'll be getting you a package together this week and get it sent out by mid-week.....hope you will like it.....
Dee
Wow, now thats how to start, you have soooo many options. This gives me an idea of what to send.....thanks for posting the photo....
Dee
The picure is out my back door, more or less, facing NW. The shade from the left is a live oak just outside my fence. The yard is now mostly graded, with a border about 10' to 15' deep along the back and left side, and about 6' deep along the right, 3/4 of the way towards the house. There is a drive-through gate to the right so I left that open. The camera my son was using to take pictures died so I'm going to try to graph it out for y'all.
Your box will be going out in the morning Tracy. I've thrown in some bonus seeds for ya too. :) Happy planting.
Thank you, ecobioangie!!!
And here is the graphic of my backyard - the freehand lines are NOT accurate, I need to measure more, but the yard outline is correct. The blotch to the right is an existing orange tree, the Arbour is built, and the pond is a future project (currently a hole in the ground.) The reason there is so much darn grass is the septic field. Anyway, I hope the image makes sense to y'all.
well..
i've got lots of aloe vera babies if you're interested in that kind of thing
letmeknow :)
if you're going to the fla plant swap, i might be able to just hand them over to you there instead of having to ship them
(i'm really hoping i can make it to that plant swap! lol)
Kim
Killer, (I love that I can call someone Killer with a straight face ...LOL) You need a gardenia bush, don't you?
I have an extra baby or two if you are interested. I rooted some cuttings last summer, potted them up in the fall and they've been growing all winter. Cute little babies ...
If you want them, I have some highly invasive yellow swamp iris that will love your pond, but will grow and multiply happily in your garden. You will want to keep these under control, if you get them.
We will have to wait and see what comes back in spring, but I may also have some extra un-known hosta.
E-mail me if you are interested.
Cheri'
Sundry, you have mail. :)
Miss Kitty,
By all means, bring one to the plant swap.
thanks!!!
KillerChihuahua, I have some yellow lantana http://plantsdatabase.com/go/578/index.html plants that I don't need if you're interested.

Paulwhwest;
Thank you for the offer! I didn't even think of lantana when making out my list, and that's a reliable, not to say invasive, plant in this area if I ever saw one... wonder why I didn't think of it?
Now I'm going to get all inconsistent: I'm not sure I'd like a pure yellow one, because to me one of the coolest things about lantana (besides that you cannot kill it, it smells good, butterflies love it, etc) is the two-color effect most lantana have.
Since I cannot imagine anyone having lantana and not having extra to share, I won't even feel guilty about asking - do you happen to have a rasberry-pink and yellow lantana?
Or anyone else reading this thread, if Paul doesn't -
Thanks much!
I do have a yellow and pink one but I would have to take cuttings in spring. I would be happy to do that if you're willing to wait.
I think I sent you some lantana 'Confetti' seeds in your box. If I didn't let me know. They came from 'weeds' at our swap last fall. I haven't grown them myself yet either, but the 'Confetti' is a beautiful colorful one.
ecobioangie:
The plants and seeds arrived! They were here when I got home from work. I am so excited, I went out and planted some of them last night (mosquitoes are already fierce this year!) I cannot wait to see how they do. I have a question - is the yarrow the tall kind? I'd like to plant it behind the daisies if it will be tall enough to show up well there.
I'm still figuring out the seeds. You *did* send the lantana, so I will be starting those soon.
ack, I had more questions which I sent in an email. I'm all over the place this morning.
This message was edited Feb 12, 2004 7:03 AM
I'm glad they arrived! That was fast. I think the achillea is the Colorado mix, but I can't be sure as it was unlabled. It gets about knee high or so, pretty much the same as the daisies. Of course the daisies bloom a couple of months later than the achillea here in Atlanta, so they'd still be short at that time. I don't know about florida.
Going to check my mail...
If you're looking here because the thread showed NEW content, please read the top post "EDIT/Addition:" section.
thanks!
Killer the pure yellow is much better lantana than the 2 tone. I have it and the butterflies love it. The pure yellow is much more showy than the 2 tone. Take the yellow offer!
Edited to say the 2 tone I am talking about is the wild type that grows in FL.
This message was edited Feb 18, 2004 11:23 AM
That is prettier than the 2 tone we have growing wild here.
Of course you won't hurt my feelings! I appreciate your asking though. I've gotten more seed than I could use from trades and I re-traded it. I figure spread the love! Just let people know that it's not yours and you haven't any experience growing it so they know it is an 'unknown' so to speak. :)
