rose cuttings wanted

Cranberry Twp, PA(Zone 5b)

I am very active in rose propagation and am always on the look out for anyone willing to share or trade rose cuttings with me.

Especially wanted are strong scented roses that repeat bloom, hardy to at least zone 5/6.

I am willing to exchange for cuttings or will exchange for rooted roses depending on the amount and rarity of the rose.

Anyone interested?

When is the best time to send cuttings? before they break dormancy? I have two hardy climbers, (William Baffin & Seven Sisters), ... They are going to get the boot this spring. A friend is taking the plants but I can prolly snip some cuttings if you think they'll root.

Irving (Dallas area), TX(Zone 8a)

I'll be taking cuttings next spring of 'Margaret Merril' and 'Livin Easy' both of which have a very nice fragrance and good repeat bloom, and although it doesn't say so in the Plants Database I believe they are both hardy to zone 5.

I'm taking cuttings of Buff Beauty, Cecile Brunner CL, Madame Isaac Pereire, Marie van Houtte and Souvenier de la Malmaison CL (just started these yesterday), Valentine (started yesterday). I have rooted cuttings of The Prince and have some that are rooting of Clotilde Soupert.

Sorry to take so long to respond back again.

I will try and get a list of what I already have posted in my journal.

flowerjunkie: I do have most of those already, but not Valentine.

Paulwhwest I don't have either of those. That would sound good, a bit later when you're ready to prune.

poppysue I usually use softwood cuttings after the plant has well leafed on in the early summer. I haven't had as much luck with hardwood cuttings.

Murchison, TX(Zone 8b)

oh my you are so lucky! wish i had a few

Cranberry Twp, PA(Zone 5b)

I had a very nice lady last year from my area invite me over to her house in the Spring, and let me take cuttings of almost all her roses.

Sweet. :-)

Oh Flower Junkie,
Please say you are willing to trade!!! roses For non rose plants...Please and pretty please...

I love the ogr's and you would think moving into a century old house there would have been a few. But no, the previous homeowner must have hated yard maintenance more than he did home maintenance. At least he left the trees alone (that would have cost a pretty penny). He did leave a lot of ivy which he planted right up next to the neighbor's house and which I am helping to remove. But I digress...

Let me know please...

Sheila

If you tell me what to do and when to do it and how to package them, I'd be glad to send you some cuttings in exchange for postage. Now, I don't have anything rare, but the most fragrant and floriferous I have are Mister Lincoln and Voodoo.

Kelli,
I love Mr. Lincoln and Voodoo. I grew both of those for my mom when I was in Jr. High. My Mr. Lincoln was so thorny my dad would cuss when he mowed around it. Thank goodness it mostly grew straight up. But my mother loved the perfect red roses from it. Voodoo was beautiful and always got a lot of nice compliments. Gosh, your post brought back a lot of nice memories of my mom! I can even remember what Mr. Lincoln smells like.

Isn't it weird how memory works?

Sheila, they say that smell is the sense most closely linked to memory. If you haven't smelled a box of crayons in a couple years, check it out the next time you are in the store. The headrush of memories will blow you away!

Radu, if you e-mailed me, it didn't get through. There is a problem with e-mails sent directly from Dave's Garden not getting to me. You can e-mail me directly at plantparadiseca at hotmail dot com.
