Found a pod

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Pod parent Insignis Pink. Polen donor has to be Dr. Seuss, that's the only thing that was blooming at the same time. How do I know when it's ready to harvest?

Mine has been "bright" green since Sept. It has just now gotten dull green. It is still solid, not soft like they say it should be and then turn tan to brown. I can't wait much longer!

My blooms were real late, October I think. When I first saw this I thought "what a strange bloom" and upon closer inspection, it was a pod, MY FIRST.

I think you will know when it is ready. They can get nasty looking. Isn't it fun?

Congrats Linda. How you get some nice babies from it.

Is that hanging from a 4 inch plant?? All of my pods that have been overwintered have gone into slow motion. So I think the cold slows them down.

You will be able to tell. On some the peduncle gets yellowish and soft, others the pod itself does. Some burst open or shred the outer covering. I gently feel them and if they start to get softer I keep a close eye on them.

No, this plant is on the ground, so it's about 5'. There you go again Kell, with peduncle talk. (is that the piece that holds the pod onto the plant?)

What fun!?! ..LOL

Congratulations on your first pod. I haven't even tried to do any crossing as didn't have more than one type blooming at a time. Hope you get something interesting from it. Donna
