Ambrosia

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Hi Nat, Please tell me if I have this straight. I have a cutting from you, GARU, labeled W. Whiskers, Nat. Am I correct that this is "Ambrosia"? It is about 18" tall, has a Y and I think a bud. I took a photo but it was out of focus.

Someone, please tell me the best way to keep this bud. Water? Feed? Pray? Also, someone please tell me how to take the close-ups in focus. I have a Nikon but on automatic it doesn't know what to focus on when I get real close. I took several shots and they are all blurred.

We have Nikon #995. Asked DH about it. He says to push button only half way down to focus, then after it is focused, push same button all the way down to take pic.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'll try some more this afternoon. It has a micro setting but I just haven't used it enough to know how to use it.

Linda, what I had originally referred to as White Whiskers is now officially "Ambrosia". It is such a prolific bloomer that I'm not surprised that you have a bud. It looks like both you and Vi will be enjoying Ambrosia blooms before I get to this year.

Good luck on the bud opening!

Linda, if I use the macro on my camera I can't use the zoom function. Just go close, don't zoom and wait for the camera to focus. Remember it will focus on what is right in the middle.

Oh, goodie. Here's my Ambrosia bud. Please, please tell me how to grow it to bloom. I don't want it to fall off.

Linda, just don't baby it. Don't touch. Keep your eyes open for mites. If you don't over water it and do fertilize it should be okay. Can't wait to see your bud open. Congrats.

It is in a 4" pot. Do I dare move it up?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Linda, you can move it up, just be careful not to bump the bud and don't disturb the roots. Should be fine. Just put it back in the same spot so it has the same light it had before.

Great picture Linda....

Thanks for your help, I'm so nervous. It is really a little taller than the light fixture, and has to sit a little out from under it. I wish I would lift my light more, but it is to the max. Should I go all the way to 1 gal, or just to a 6"?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I probably don't do like I'm supposed to, but I would go to a gallon size. I can't tell how large the plant is. If it is really small, I probably wouldn't even let the bloom mature. How tall is it? If it is over a foot tall, it can probably support the bloom okay. It is those tiny ones that can't handle the weight of the bloom and the stress on the plant.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Plant is about 18". I potted it up to a 6" (probably half a gal) before I read your post. The bud will probably fall off anyway. It is too tall to put back where it was, so I had to move it to where I have taller lights.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hope it sticks for you. The plant is sure big enough to support it. Good luck. Since you are putting it where you have taller lights, it might not realize it was moved anyway. Keep us informed.

I will, keep your fingers crossed for me.

I have the political hooplas this week. Edwards won it here and is about to make his big entrance.

Ahhhh, Linda - - too bad. But Ambrosia is a really prolific bloomer. So once you have some warm weather look out!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I can't wait. I have so many this year that I'm anxious to see bloom. (I guess I looked at it too hard)

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Ah Linda, I guess you gave it a "drop dead look"! LOL
