crazy ideas?

OK Im queen of crazy ideas that dont pan out---but heres my latest. I was driving to work the other day thinkin about what else---brugs, and I wondered *what if*----what if you took three seedlings of seperate crosses that you HOPED would be three seperate colors, and you braided them as they grew, and secured their positions with ummm *I dont know yet?* wouldnt it be neat to have a multicolored tree shaped, braided speciman plant? I know the majority of yall grow seedlings out to create new plants, and I am the leach who reaps your hard work with keepers and culls, but I havent seen a bloom yet that I didnt love. I realize that different seedlings will grow at different rates and y at different heights, but Im gonna try it, prolly fail but I am gonna try. cheryl

Plays, don't be thinking you're the only brughead to daydream about that kind of stuff.......

I did it last year.....but with rooted green cuttings......
I'll go out and take a picture......

heres the picture....
the biggest problem is that they don't grow at the same rate and it makes it very hard to get a consitant braid, maybe it will look better once the trunks get large and thick

What a neat idea! To get a more consistant trunk, you could braid three of one variety. Wouldn't that give you more foliage, flowers (albeit the same) and a pretty trunk?

okay let me tell you what i did last year as i have said before here I just bury a log cutting in the ground green hard wood( no roots right off the tree) 2 feet deep cover with mulch and wait till spring for it to emerge, well we mixed some up and planted two logs of different ones in one hole and my mil had two trees togeather a yellow and a pink blooming at the same time she thought it was the same plant LOl till i figured out what we had done she was happy though it was pretty It look like one shrub.

I braided 2 together last year. I had a yellow and a pink that had very similar blooms. I was hoping they would fuse together as ficus braided trunks do. But then one of them died! I may try it again. CC, let us know how yours does. It is looking great.

LOL CC----I have to show this to my hubby cuz when I told him, he rolled his eyes and shook his head....your plant looks wonderful, cant wait to see how it does when the trunks thicken up. :) cheryl

Great idea. I love to make "braided trees" but never thought of trying it with brug seedlings. I must try this too. Thanks for all the great ideas.

I just thought of this a few weeks ago, I figured I wasn't the first to come up with the idea, and here's the proof!! I am trying it with seedlings, 3 seeds planted in the same 4" pot, let them get a little leggy so I can start the braid easier, then lots of patience!

Let us know how they do!
