We finally got home yesterday afternoon. I spent the entire afternoon & evening giving the critters extra attention, cleaning cages & litter boxes(yes they had been cleaned some while we were gone but it was time to do it again), cleaned the fish tank and added new water, watering houseplants with the fishtank water, etc. All the critters seemed so glad to see us again. Kyle and Holly were part of the household until just a couple months ago and still just live a few hundred feet from our house so it wasn't all that hard on them. The little silver blue cockrel I'm saving for KathyJo waited until I was up and in the kitchen to crow a couple times this morning. I thanked him for being so considerate.
I have to call work in a while and see if someone will come get me for work and bring me home tonight. The alternator on the good van went out the night before we left on our trip. The old van doesn't have a heater worth counting on, especially in this weather. Fortunately a close friend was willing to take us to the airport. Better yet, she had a doctor appointment in that end of K.C. just an hour after we had to be at the airport for check in. This friend is always there when I need help. I've only known her about 12 years and we have a lot in common yet a lot we disagree on but she is a real friend in good or bad times. Then our daughter in Independence was nice enough to pick us up at the airport, keep us at her home for the night and bring us home yesterday. It was a wonderful trip but we are so glad to be home.
It is bitter, chilling to the bone out this morning. No additional snow or freezing rain, and no wind to speak of but still cold.
I just moved the 2 Mini Rex bunnies into large plastic storage containers the dining room. Charlotte is a gorgeous blue and might even be show quality. Sheldon is brindle and most likely the pet quality we bought him to be. I got licks from Charlotte this morning. That is really precious because she is usually not all that pettable and affectionate. Sheldon is very pettable and loving. Both will be 2 this late spring. We mated them one time and got 3 or 4 babies. We like to never got rid of those babies. I think they were 4 or 5 months old before we could get them sold. A little girl who wanted them for 4-H got them. That particular year the bunnies were a dime a dozen and everyone had them by the dozens. Charlotte has never been as friendly since the birth of the babies.
I need to go water and feed the poultry & pigeons and let them out of the building. We put feed and water inside for them at night but by now everything is frozen solid in these temps. We have to water several times a day to keep them in water that is drinkable.
I still need to unpack the suit cases and get everything put away. That wasn't a priority to me yesterday.
GOD bless and keep each and all of you.
