Our 'twice spayed' queen

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Several months ago a cat that had been dumped at the cafe' where I work got to come home with me permenantly. She was beginning to try to get into the cafe' and had succeeded a time or two so she just couldn't stay there anymore. The health department really frowns on animals in such places, you know.

Anyway, since there had been about 5 very small kittens with her and she appeared to be the one raising them everyone thought they were hers. We do NOT want any more kittens around here so I made an appointment to have her (Beverly)spayed. There has been a beautiful tom coming around here lately and I thought she was the reason since all our other cats are spayed. It turned out she is already spayed! Those were not her baby kittens, and no one seems to have any idea how old she is or anything about her before she showed up at the cafe' last spring. She has a badly formed lower jaw and has trouble eating many foods but we've always been able to keep her in good flesh as had the folks who own the cafe'. The vet said her right jaw has been broken in two places, healed inproperly and there is no way to fix it now. We have seen her hunt mice and the people at the cafe' said they have seen her bring in rabbits for the kittens.

She is a loving and quite pretty calico except that she always looks dirty and unkempt. We have to keep her separated from the other cats because some of them are so hateful toward her. She loves being in the house and probably hasn't been outside a total 72 hours since we got her last fall. I'll have to keep her combed regularly now because the vet said there is no way she can groom herself very well. That is why she always looks so umkempt and had bad hair balls. I had him shave off the hair balls while she was asleep. I sure want to keep her free of them now.

Has anyone else every had a cat or dog respayed?
