polarbear a round robin is when the some one like me gathers names of people who want to play. i start off a pkg of seeds on a cerain route. when it gets to you you take out what you want and put back in the same # of pks you took out of something different and mail it on to the next person on the list. eventually it gets back to me. if you have extra seeds you can add them to and after i take out what i want then i offer them for trade and sase's.

this has to be a record, 17 minutes already 6 players

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Right now we are allowed up to a pound of seeds...there is a Bill in Parliament that will stop the importing of seeds from Datura etc. and to implement this they may ask for a phyto...Customs did open one of my boxes...had more than a pound of seeds...thought of seizing it but let it through.
Brown bubble envelopes have come to me many times clearly marked with seeds on some and all of those have passed through Customs. The Bill is in the First Reading...it's not law yet.

I did ask jcf to just email me what was available after it came home to her...and I would pick a few...too much time is lost when it crosses a border (and I would send an equal amount back to her).

Antointte,

I have been sending seeds to Canada. The first time I sent my DH to the post office with the package...He asked if there was any reason ....I couldn't mail seeds, and they said there wasn't any law stating we couldn't. We just can't send plants...is my understanding.

Thanks gardenermaid,
could it just be the Brugmansia and Datura seeds then? I know they have very strict rules about those. Maybe I misunderstood. I had been sending them all over the place until they got caught up in Chile Customs and it seems some get through and some don't.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Hi Antoinette
Canada still allows the selling of Datura seeds but
as soon as the Bill has gone through the second and third
reading and has been approved by Senate then they will be illegal to sell or import. I asked for some from DG'ers
earlier because I wanted them before this became law. The box that Customs so carefully searched had seeds of Daturas and Brugs and were clearly identified as such...but for a while yet they are
still legal. I don't know yet if the Brugmansia seeds will
be included...petunias and tomatoes are also in the same family...I think it's Datura and it's more dangerous nightshade relatives that the Canadian Government is concerned about. Saskatchewan tends to sell the plant in the Greenhouses but rarely the seed and I was worried it would become law before our greenhouses open in late May.
It's also difficult to find a supplier with the varieties that are available in Dave's Garden.
Hope this helps!
