did these get heavy enough to break the vines? Also how high up is your trellis?
Lucky you, sponges for life, lol, I wonder if it would grow in zone 9-10, hot in summer 80's-103's, dry.,
I'm growing my first luffas. I really like this - maybe next year! I love seeing big squash, pumpkins, melons hanging off vines. It's amazing how strong they are, and it's certainly a unique look for an arbor or pergola. I just have to make sure to make it high enough to not hit my head on the fruits.
Geez guys, sorry I haven't replied sooner. Never thought I'd get other comments, and I haven't looked at this since I posted it. Again, sorry for the wait. The trellis was about 10' high, and I did hit my head a bit. They never did break the vines, even though they went through a tropical storm with winds about 50 - 70 mph. It shredded the leaves, they grew back, and it kept on going. If you want to grow them in CA, I imagine you'll need to water alot. They like water.
