(((springsong))) I'm doing the happy dance!

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

For any of you that don't already know this, springsong is just the nicest, sweetest, most thoughtful, helpful lady that I've "met" in a long time. She saw in a post that I had unsuccessfully bid on some brug seeds at e-bay, and look what arrived in my mailbox today!

Amanda - you are just too much! God bless you and thank you so much!!!

Okay, now I want to make sure I do right by these little guys, so from what I've seen here lately, they need to be peeled, then soaked in a 10% bleach solution? Then sown? Am I correct in this? Thank you!!! Gretchen

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

I'd soak them and then peel them and soak for 10 to 15 minutes in the 10% bleach, Then sow them.JMHO.

Ada thanks! Just so I'm sure I understand, they get two soaks?

Right, soak for a day or two, (change water), then peel if desired, then give a 10 minute soak in the 10% bleach solution (as ahelms wrote). Good luck!

Well thank you so much Gretchen for such a nice thank you~~ I could not have shared with you if some other sweeties here hadn't shared with me. You all know who you are and I appreciate all of my generous friends here at Daves and BGI and i must add too that i got a few of those beauties from the BGI seed bank Hope they turn out some good crosses for you.

Let the fun begin.

Gretchen, you are going to have such a gorgeous yard this year. You better take a bunch of pictures. Have fun with the seeds, and by the way, if they are pretty small, I would only soak and not peel. You might do more damage by trying to peel the little ones. I didn't soak seeds this year. I shouldn't say that...maybe a couple of kinds, but mine all were really fresh and they peeled without soaking.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I never soak my seeds. I peel them and then put them in for 1 minute in 10% bleach. Though now I am using Physan 20 instead.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Gretchen, you need one of Kell's dancers to put on your thread. lol That sure was sweet of Amanda to send you those seeds. Aren't the people here wonderful. It just amazes me all the time how generous they all are.

"down the Shore", NJ(Zone 7a)

Gretchen, if they peel easily, fine. If not, soaking will help make it easier to peel. Depends on whether they are really fresh. What you don't want is a seedhead covered with a corky covering that doesn't come off easily. The answer to that, if it happens, is to mist it two or three times a day until it comes off on its own.

Thank you all for all your advice. I wasn't back online after John's first post, and at his and Ada's advice put them in to soak. I'm going to check on them and see how they're doing in just a few. Guess I'll start them in the sponges as I just found out my rw shipment is delayed... Always something. Honestly, they are the first brug seeds I've ever seen, so I don't know if they are big or small *chuckle* but they are bigger than alot of seeds I plant... I hope you all have a wonderful, blessed day!!!
