Can plants and bulbs be mailed in padded envelopes and still arrive intact?

KElli; They do fine in a padded envelope when you put them in litle medicine bottles. :^)

i have found that when i receive plants or bulbs in a bubble envelop they tend to get into trouble. usually some rotting takes place.

Padded envelopes are definately not plant friendly. As to the bulbs I have recieved in them I have about a 50 percent survival rate. As many get damaged in transit due to the flexiabilty of the envelope and rough handling. I prefer seeds in envelopes. As to bulbs and plants, boxes are best in my opinion.

And I've just recently found that seeds can have a problem in a regular envelope. I've sent big seeds that got smashed in the machines. So my next move is the padded envelope for those seeds. Now anyone have any problems with little seeds getting crushed?

I have a suggestion to all who are asking how to properly ship plants, bulbs and seeds. Dave has all of the necessary information needed in his "A Tour of DG". On his first page, he has an area "The Trading Tools". Then in there, he has the "Trading Primer". He even gives the pros and cons to the different shipping products that can be used. I think he has done an great job in putting this together. Thanks Dave!
