Can't clean stuff off iron

I have a nice iron, and it has sticky stuff on it, from me ironing on self sticking letters to a tee shirt, I have tried fingernail polish remover, alcohol, rubbing it while the iron is on and nothing is getting this stuff off. it's coming off when I iron my kids teakwondo uniforms and getting on the white clothes. Help me please. this is a rowenta, and I paid a fortune for it. I'm stupid for not being careful,
