Snail Vine (Phaseolus caracalla)

Snail Vine
Vigna caracalla

Image taken in Norwood, South Astralia (just outside Adelaide), 2002. This is by far one of the most amazing plants I have ever seen. Please note the ant (not sure on the particular species, but it's a fairly common-looking small black ant) for size comparison.

I love these vines and the fragrance it spreads through out the garden makes it a double beauty.

Ants are the pollinators...that is why this little guy is interested...

This is a stunning photo. I have been looking for this plant for ages. I saw one many years ago, but everywhere I ask they only seem to have the snail creeper. I have been told several times they are the same plant, but the two (snail creepers) I have purchased so far only have a single (or two at the most) mauve/white snail flowers) and never these lush bunches with the yellow and cream as well as lilac - just like the one I remember. I still hope to find one to buy in Australia just like this beauty. I will not give up!

I know this is an old message, but....Monticello sells the fragrant Corkscrew vine like the one in the picture, and you can pick up seeds from Whatcom Seed company.
