Okay...one last question today is this a "Y"

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Is this a "Y"?

It sure is Gretchen. Could even be a little bud in there if you look closely.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Looks like a "Y" to me.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Well, I'm not sure if there is a bud or not, if there is one, there are two, but they are so tiny I can't tell if they are buds or leaves... This is just too exciting!!!!!!!!!!!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

What a feeling ... the thrill .... it is exciting indeed!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Boy, Gretchen whatever you are doing is sure working great. You are going to be covered in blooms this summer. Lucky, lucky you.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I vote it's a "Y". You sure have some nice looking plants.
Which one is this, do you know?

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Thank you Hibiscus! This one is Frosty Pink.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

you know, each n every bud was just as neat as the first, perhaps after I have several hundred blooms behind me then will not be such a thrill, but I got my first blooms last summer and you would have thought I had won the lottery. Good for you Gretchen!!! looks to me like you have been doing some brug homework here. cheryl

Looking great there!

Hi, Kell. How you be?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Gretchen, hope you get lots of blooms from your newly Y'd brug. I have been watching my Snowbank for buds for the past two months since it Y'd but can't see any yet. Good luck, Donna

Thank you all!!!

Gretchen: It IS indeed, a "Y" BUT, in this case you have what appears to be a rooted cutting of the terminal end of a branch, which naturally splits into a Y. In other words, I believe the cutting itself was a Y already, or am I wrong?

SEEDLINGS, to bloom, must first split into a "Y" The wood above this initial Y will thereafter be "blooming wood" and you can have blooms sprout from ANYWHERE on rooted cuttings taken from blooming wood, and do NOT need to Y in order to bloom. I hope I didn't confuse you.

Bruggie is right: if the ends of the Y don't have tiny buds showing yet they will soon. Keep us posted.

psst? it helps to break out the pom poms and megaphone to cheer them on --promotes budding, just make sure your neighbors are at work.

Mainfrog: Thank you for your explanation. When I received this cutting, it was a straight, bare stick, just like all the others. It appears from the way it was cut that it maybe was predisposed to grow in this direction, but the "Y" is all new growth. Regardless, I am just very happy to have what appear to be healthy plants. I have been eyeing your Snowbank babies... May breakdown and buy one from you :)

I hope you all have a great day. Looks like we're going to have a pretty one after all the rain the last few days. Maybe a good time to start digging my brug holes while the ground is mushy...

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

Uhhhh.....mainfrog has snowbank for sale.....I want one too.....

Cuttings rooted from above the Y will bloom earlier and form more compact plants, but they must still form a Y before they bloom.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

It was a bud...and it fell off :( but they all still look healthy. That one just wasn't meant to be. Also, it was labled Frosty Pink, but the leaves and stem look much more like the Double White. I'm wondering if it was mis-labled?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I went back and looked at the picture and I think you are right Gretchen. This one doesn't look like Frosty to me. More like a Candida Dbl. White. Guess you have to play the waiting game now.

Dee: Here is the link for the Snowbank. Don't know how many are available, but I put a bid in on one...
