Hello--sent you an email. :)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Frank, I'm over here in Ft Lauderdale. I have some seeds that I'm told will grow in 10. You live in a trailer? Small yard space? I have some milkweed, Yellow Bauhinia (Yellow Orchid Tree), Tacoma Stans (tree) Both these trees will not be wide spread. Hibiscus Sabdariffa. These items came from my own yard. Whats on your trade list? I could also get you some starters from several things, heliconia, wandering jew, crotons. LMK

Hi do you have a list available of the seeds you have to trade??

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Frank, email me with your trade list & your wants. I swap tropicals, too. I have a greenhouse in PA.

I have been planning to put up a greenhouse. I'm quite curious as to how you heat yours?

What did you use for glazing?

TIA

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Radu, My DH made it out of old storm windows & cement blocks with a dirt/cap block floor. He staples heavy plastic inside onto the window frames. We heat it with a 3500 BTU propane heater. Costs us about $ 39.00 a month or $ 1.65 per gallon of propane. Hope that helps you. You can see it at our website:

How warm do you keep it? Must be pretty warm if you're growing tropicals!

You've got mail

Well, at night, it goes to about 55-58 degrees. The tropicals don't seem to mind it. Some of them go dormant, but start growing again when we start getting more sunlight in March. Now it's covered with snow & ice & there is light getting in but not direct sunlight. I have Bananas, Palms, Orchids (a few), my cow's udder plants (Solanum mammosum), Passifloracae, Bird of Paradise, cannas (which we put out in the pond in May), also Purple Taros, Ferns, Geraniums, heliconias, you name it, I might have it! LOL Anyway, we have very few losses in the winter. Did you take a look at the homebrew GH my DH built for me? We've had it about 10 years now. This time of year, he puts T-beams up to support the weight of the snow & ice on the roof of it, since the roof is fiberglass. If you ever get near Carlisle, email me before you are coming & We'll give you our address & phone number & you can come over & see it. It's been my dream to have a greenhouse all my life and my DH made my dream come true.

Well, we went so far as to get the permit to build, but haven't started anything yet. I wanted it for roses but was concerned that it would cost too much to heat to really be practical in our area.

I would only want to keep it just above freezing in the dead of Winter, then heat up a bit in the Spring to get a jump on things early for the season.

You've given me some hope that maybe it wouldn't be all that expensive! Thanks so much for the invite. :-)
