Oh well, guess no one wants to talk about ginger. s'cuseme. I will try to find info elsewhere.Being a NE Ga country girl, guess all these"sophistacated" folks don't want to talk to me! SADDDDD (can't spell either but love people!)
Hi,
I don't think you needed to dig them up. I am in zone 8B & leave mine in the ground all year.

Believe me, if I knew anything about your gingers, I would let you know. I'm in Georgia and only grow the white ones. I never take them in. They just multiply. I thought the ones that you have are so tender that I have never grown them.
I would have left them in the ground.
Oh! Guess I messed up by taking them up. Thanks for your responses, sorry if I sounded paronoid!Had a "bad hair day?"
I hope some will survive if I replant them. Thanks again, Melba
Hi Melba,
If those were the only varieties you had, they didn't need to be dug. Some varieties of Curcuma (particularly alismatifolia), may need to be dug here in FL depending on the type of winter we have.
The temps aren't a problem, but if we have a particularly wet winter, rot could be an issue. They should aslo be dug if you have a sprinkler system that hits them during the dormancy period.

*psst GagalinFL* Gingers are discussed over in the 'tropicals' forum. That's why you didn't get any response right off. :)
My face is VERY Red!!See, I have never grown Ginger before, so I thought "Bulbs". Thats what I love about this DG. I have learned so much in a very short time.
The foliage on the Ginger died, I removed it and then dug them up. They had multipled so much, had a hard time digging them. Oh well, Thanks to you all for your responses.
