Strawberry sale

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

If you are interested in growing stawberries in the spring, Gurney's is having a sale until the end of February: 75 plants for $19.99.

Before you buy strawberry plants check "FLORIDA STRAWBERRIES" on the net. There are only a few types that can be grown in So. Fl. and Gurneys is not one of them, I know for I mistakenly purchased them a year ago plus a few other types and none of them really made it. Our summers are too hot for most varities, however there are a few that are pertinent to our clime, such as Florida 91 and a few others which you will find on the net. This is the variety that is grown in Plant City and Homestead. I'll do some more research and let you know where you can buy them!
Found them --- Chandler, Sweet Charlie and Carmarosa are the names--now where to buy them?

Molly, I remember you saying you have a space problem. Try WORMSWAY.net. They have grow bags that are cheap and do the job quite well.

Thanks TP, I've had my strawberries planted for over a month now. I planted plants. I thought that would be a good sale for those people who don't live down here. Gurney's won't even ship plants until the proper planting season is here for the correct zone.

Tplant, are those grow bags for growing plants or compost? (Silly question?)

Thanks, Molly

Molly I grew flowers a few years ago in gro bags dont know if they are what TP is speaking of but it was a bag with several holes in it that you planted kind of like the upside down bucket planting scheme then when everything was nicely started you hung the bag and watered from the top.Ernie

I know the bags you are talking about EWEED but they are not the same one's that I was referring. Your bags are very difficult to provide water to the bottom plants unless you provide a tube with holes, inserted in the middle of the bag so it can reach the bottom plants. If you go to"WORMSWAY" on the net you will see what I recommend, for I use them and they work. They have pre-slit holes on their sides and are quite strong. I can lift them and move them around. They come in different sizes. I even grow tomatos in some of them -- Jasmine in others.
