Wanted: evergreen wisteria? Millettia reticulata
Marie,,
I had pulled off some seed pods of this wisteria in town one day. I know its a wisteria,,but not 100% sure its evergreen. I would be happy to send you a few seeds. I didnt get many myself, but have plenty to share a few. Would you like some? PLMK. Thanks!
Mary

but welcome any wisteria. email me
Imzadi,
I was interested in a Millettia reticulata vine myself; but, my wife convinced me we really needed a plain old wisteria instead so I gave up on the idea. Don't have room for another big vine in our backyard, plus, we got married under a Wisteria covered arbor in the spring, so she is a bit nostalgic.
I had been asking around at nurseries here, and usually get a very blank look when I ask about evergreen wisteria. It doesn't help that it is not listed in the Sunset Western Garden book.
In searching on the web, I discovered Monrovia does grow Millettia plants, so you might be able to special order one. Probably expensive, though.
So far, I have found no seed purveyors that sell the seeds.
However, I did discover Millettia reticulata seeds are used in Chinese medicine. If you have a Chinese medicine store or grocery in town, it might be something to try.
Also, Wisteria can take 10 years to flower from seed, so cuttings might be a better way to go...
Hope this helps!
sti;; hoping for a cutting. i really want this but everyone at my nurseries says its not sold here. that is a bummer .thanks all
Here is the Monrovia catalog page:

They have a dealer locator, so maybe you could find one is South Carolina...
Also, there was a thread earlier this year on Dave's Garden about Evergreen Wisteria:

Maybe one of those folks saved seeds...
It certainly is a beautiful plant.
Imzadi Have purple wisteria seeds you can have Shirley
Hey imzadi,
I have the evergreen wysteria Millettia reticulata, blooms are purple to black and the scent is intoxicating. I can send nice woody cuttings from a well established blooming size plant for postage or if you want to trade that will work too. I find they take a long time to root but WILL root without fail in about 3-4 months. I usually start mine around this time of the year in the greenhouse or I wait until Feb and do them outside. I'm in zone 8A. My personal computer is down right now but I should have it reformated and ready to go by next week. Repond "here" and I'll check back. I'm using my work computer but can not access Roadrunner off if it. :-(
Hello Daisy---Hope everything goes well on getting your computer back up and running. I had to deal with a hard harddrive crash myself about 4 months back and it was the pits trying to get everything back up and organized for myself to run it again.
I emailed you and thought I had best post it here too. I was wondering if you might consider trading with me on some of your wisteria cuttings if you have any extras left. I have been looking for this plant but just couldn't afford any of the sites on the net that sell it. I am not sure I can root it but sure would love to try. If you have any extra cuttings to share, please let me know what you would like for them in exchange. Thank you. :)
CountryBumkin,
I would love to trade with you, and don't mind sending cuttings for SASE. I'm interested in the bridal wreath (is it a double white??) and the purple leaf plum (is this a fruiting or ornamental plum??). I don't mind rooting it for you. I'm going to do a bunch this week or next so it no trouble at all. Are you stillinterested in these; variegated turks cap (can root), cannas, gingers and purple smoke tree (I'm rooting this)? I have them.
I'm still not up and running. I'm thinking I should just by a DELL computer and be done with all the problems I've had with this compaq... :-(
Please respond here and I'll check back.
Daisy
i will gladly send postage for the cutting or whatever you need for them. thanks so much email me when you get a chance. marie
