Have Lion's Ear - Leonotis nepetaefolia seeds

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

I have some Lion's Ear - Leonotis nepetaefolia seeds that I harvested from my garden in the fall of 2003.
These are pretty hard to collect, as the "flowers heads" are a ball of needles. Consequently, the trade would be for only about 20 seeds per offer. But you really don't need more, as I only planted 10 seedlings, and had a huge mass of plants.

They are very easy to start from seed.

Description below & a picture of my plants in July (I think).

I would like to get some named varieties of Cosmos and or other self seeding plants, or things that I could winter sow.

I have a list of other things to trade as well, so check out my list.

Annual lion's ear is an erect, loosely branched annual that can get 8' tall in its single growing season. The stems are strongly angled (square in cross section) and the leaves are in pairs opposite each other. The leaves are smooth with coarsely toothed margins, triangular in shape and 2-5" long. The flowers are borne in rounded, spiny clusters, 2-4" across, that encircle the stems so that it looks like the stems are growing right through the middle of the clusters. As the stems elongate, new flower clusters continue to develop above the older ones. The tubular flowers that peek out of the spiny heads are orange and furry, like a lion's ear, so they say. The flowers are about an inch long and curve downward.

Do you have anymore seed for lions ear, please let me know. Thanks

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

I can still make a few more trades for the Lion's Ear. Anyone who is still interested Email me or post here.

If you have posted a request, and I haven't gotten back to you please let me know. I don't want to miss anyone, and I don't "think" I have, but when there are a lot of request it happens.

Ever notice that some people will post with their GW username, and then email you with their "real" name. Add that to the fact that it's a different email address and it can get confusing ....

Just a suggestion, include your GW username and use the reply button so whoever you are communicating with can see the previous discussions you have had with them. When you get a lot of request, it's hard to remember everything. (well at least for me it is .....)

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Got mine today. Thanks so much

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

DonnaB,

Glad to hear they arrived OK. Good luck with them & remember to wear thick gloves when harvesting seed.

Windham, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi Tree Climber, Was wondering if you had any seeds left? I have some Broom Corn if you wanted to trade. PLMK, Shirley

Incidently, was curious how you got your name, hubby is tree climber so it caught my eye,LOL

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

ShirlieB

I've still got some seed so I'd love a trade.

I don't climb trees anymore, except virtually ...when I need to relax, and I visualize myself sitting in a tree, looking over my gardens, with a cool breeze blowing .......

The name is two-fold ............... I love trees and nature, and I am always climbing family trees .... genealogy is one of the other addictions I have.

Seymour, IN(Zone 5b)

I received my seeds today. Thanks!!! I can't wait til spring gets here to start planting. Hope you enjoy the Mexican sunflowers as much as the butterflies do. Lou

Brown City, MI(Zone 5a)

I've mailed out all the seeds that were requested.

If there is anyone who doesn't get their seed by Wednesday, let me know. If you sent me your address, you should have them by then.

If there is anyone I missed, I can still fill some more request.

Thanks for all the wonderful trades Everyone.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)
