Can any banana plants survive in zone 6?

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I received two this past summer and I am hooked. I love going to the beach and this helps when I am landlocked!
I brought mine in this winter.

This depends on the type Banana and the conditions you use to overwinter.Do you know what it is?

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

No, I am not sure. That is why we potted it up in a big container and lugged it inside. Wish I had a greenhouse! Any suggestions on hardy ones?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi bluegrass! Too bad you missed the co-op last spring. A lot of us ordered hardy bananas on that. I chickened out and brought mine in anyway! LOL They were small when we got them but by summers end, mine were from 2' up to 6'. Maybe I will try to be more brave this year. Are you close to Mason or Logan? I'm trying to figure out if you are in driving distance or not! :)

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi bluegrass. I just noticed you from Lewisburg. What county are you in? Didn't know if you where in Mason or Logan Co.

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

My address is Lewisburg but I am across the line in Bulter Co.

Musa basjoo will do fine outside IF you can keep it fairly dry for the winter.
Cold and wet will rot them.
We are wintering 4 different types in our warehouse but are trying one basjoo and a few Elephant Ears outside.
We covered them w/ mulch to about 2' and then covered that w/ landscape cloth and partially w/ plastic.
So far so good.

henyr, keep us posted. I'm very interested and would love to give them a try next winter. I'm really tired of lugging them inside and looking at them all winter. They look so sad....lol! What kind of ee's do you have outside?

Just some plain old Colocasia esculenta.
I have dozens of them stored in the garage so if these don't make it I'm OK.
There are at least two places around here going on 3 winters now w/ returning EE's.
One owner thought they were a hardy variety. lol
Turns out that their conditions were just perfect for them.
South facing, under a 4' roof overhang, leaves naturally blown in for mulch.

Ric alocasia Macrorrhizza should overwinter there if you mulch them very well.

Cincinnati, OH(Zone 6b)

Eclipse,
I've heard that but as I only have one I was afraid to chance it.
I should have enough to try next Winter.
Thanks!
