Virus Disappeared

If you could help me, I sure would appreciate it. Last week I had a virus on my computer that essentially stopped Internet Explorer from working. Norton couldn't quarantine the virus. I just now ran Norton again and it couldn't find the virus at all.

My question is, can I delete IE from my computer and then, using Netscape, download it again? Could that solve my problem? The only reason I need IE is that Outlook is tied to it and I can't click on the links coming through email without my computer almost freezing up.
