is there a doc in the house?

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

since you Mr. Root seem to have posted on the topic more then once, I have a question---* the rest of you can chime right in* our neighbors down the road have horses---if i I were to go collect horse poop, do i need to age it before i dress my beds with it, or since since everything is dormat,--will it breakdown by spring? I am ignorant when it comes to poop---and just how do you *dress* with poop? and how does one age it? cheryl

I am too Cheryl but I know enough to say lucky you! Root is the resident poop expert, he is our very own Dr. Doo!! Though I do believe his favorite poo is rabbit doo.

I use Belgium horse manure, it is big! I put a couple in pots(outer edge), so doesn't burn the roots. Haven't lost one yet with these in pot, they grow to get away from it!
It was very fresh last year when I got it in spring(bucketfulls of the stuff).

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LMBO! They grow to get away??? LOL My SIL keeps promising to get me horse manure from her step dad and still I am waiting. I think it has been a few years that I have been waiting. :0 She has used the aged and says it is wonderful. Wouldn't fresh have seeds in it?

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

seeds??? ewww--never thought of that? hmmm? umm so do you take a hand rake n cut it in soil if your amending beds like shortening in pie crust? *isnt that a yummy image?* I dont know how to do the dooooooo?

Badseed you are right: In fresh poops the oats will germinate. I use composted horse manure ( I keep it for two years and mix it with potting soil.It works:-)

Cheryl, sorry it is your thread and I replied to Badseed.

My reply is for all of you:-) Sorry again!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I agree with Ludger, you will be better off if you can age it,I guess it also depends on how hard your spring rains are.I really don't think it is so much the manure, but the mixed in urine that causes burning.
Boy! I guess of all the things I am known for, poop seems to be my specialty!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Thank you Dr:-) you are really an expert.
I never thought about the urine in it....you are so right.

Fact is: Fresh manure can burn roots and plants.

Sorry for using short sentences:-) not being rude but less translating:-)

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

Interesting thread. I've wondered about horse manure. So Dr Doo, give us the skinny on rabbit doo. You like it better? How do you use it....how much?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

How many rabbits did it take to do that truckload of doo? And what about chicken poo?

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Okay,I'm losing some translation here. Why is it horse and rabbit doo and chicken poo? I'm missing something. ;-)
