Hoya Popsickle

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

I popsickled my hoya! It was the tri-color vareigated one. I potted it up and forgot to bring it in the house....and it was setting flowers too. Does anyone have a piece they can share with someone who had a major blonde moment? Is there anything I can do with the one that froze? The leaves are yellow, the stems yellow....cut it back and hope for the best?

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

I would cut it back & see what happens. I have a green & white
Wax plant, if you want cuttings?
Or I could root for you. Just let me know.

Yep, I would also say cut it back and hope for the best.
Sounds like you have a H. carnosa which is one of the hardiest in the Hoya clan but it still does not tolerate frost well.

I'd love any cuttings you can spare honeybee! I usually root hoya in water...it does good for me that way, if I am doing it wrong, let me know, since I am a beginner. Should I throw away all the old vines, etc, from the popsickle and trim it down to about 4"? I do have a good thick knuckle that looks like it will come back from that point.

Thanks for the advice and cutting, I appreciate it.

Spacecowgirl,

I use water or damp sand both work well for me.

Didn't I see you signed up for the Fl. Round-Up?? I can bring them then, we also have a trade
for the Pink Salvia Greggi. I can bring my trade for the Savia & the cutting(or rooted) then, if you are coming?? We can save postage. Let me know.

Sounds great to me Honeybee! I'll put it in the table. I"m going to be rooting a bunch of the salvia for the round ups, both Georgia and Florida! I look forward to meeting you.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

See you in Fl. I'll bring plants & you can pick what you want for a trade for the Salvia.

Honeybee, I'll have to either send my plants with someone else or mail them out. My 7 pound mini schnauzer will have a litter of puppies by then, and i don't want to leave her for that amount of time by herself. It's her first litter.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Space,

That is fine, don't worry about the plants. We can exchange by
mail in the spring. Let me know
what plants you are looking for,
so I will know what to send you.
I am disappointed I won't get to
meet you in person.

Me too Honeybee. I'm looking for all types of hoyas, elephant ears, dwarf cannas, mint, ginger, bouganvilla, bright tropicals that will move easily in August when we get our permanent, not rental home.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Are you going to keep plants potted till Aug.,then plant??
Will that given them enough time to ajust before winter??

Honeybee

hiram, GA(Zone 7b)

I'll probably winter everything if I can't get it in the ground by July. If in the ground in July, then they have at least 3 months to adjust.....I'll have a greenhouse set up so not really worried about space for wintering...

Space,

I just ordered another GH, the
one I have now I can't even get
in it is so full.

I am sure when I take everything out of the GH this spring, I can find you all kinds of cuttings & rooted plants. I will send you the stuff for trade (Salvia) this
spring, but can send you plenty
of other things this coming fall when your GH is set up at your new home. I am also going to dig a bed of Canna up, the tags are long gone so they want be labeled if you want some of them. Hey, e-mail me a list of things you really want & I will keep a eye out for them.

So sorry you can't make the swap, but I do understand about the puppies.
