It has warmed up to hovering around the freezing point, but is supposed to drop dramatically back into the single digits by tonight. We just had a nasty sleety/snowy squall go through and now, I THINK its just snowy, but I'm not going out to check!
Sunday night, Stan came in and asked it there was an old blanket I could cut up. We have two little heifer calves near weaning with pneumonia. I got out the pink blanket that Stan's grandmother gave us when we got married - pretty much mint condition as I am not a pink person - and made two little cloaks for the poor wee girls. I was out yesterday morning for a bit - more later - and they are both standing, one was wandering about, and their breathing is better. I should have taken a picture, but you'll just have to use your imaginations. One is a little red and white, the other a black and white. The blanket slips over their heads and is tied in back with a twine. They look like race horse blankets, only much prettier, of course.
The other thing that was going on yesterday involved the feed cart, which mixes a total ration of silage, ground corn and a protein/mineral mix and unloads it through a side chute to the cows. It pretty much dissolved into broken parts. We have a new one ordered, which should arrive Thrusday, but until then, Stan is wheelbarrowing everything to the cows. That USED to be my job. I am very frustrated by not being able to help right now!
Ah, snow flakes dancing up against the window - yes indeed, we are on the way back down. I won't take anymore frozen photos!
KJo, I hope you get your GH up and running! I'm seriously thinking about starting some seeds out under the lights. What fun!
take good care
