Clock Vine (Thunbergia mysorensis)
This is a beautiful vine, Sinny. Can you tell me what conditions it likes and what the coldest temperature that your vine is subjected too? I have a small one of these in a container, but it has not flowered for me yet. Thanks!
Just curious to know where the common name "Clock Vine" comes from?
Hi Clare, I live in Australia so this plant is subjected to some very hot & dry conditions and we don't have any frosts so the temperatures are not very low.
Hiya ButterflyGardnr, I don't know where or why the name "Clock Vine" originated but my guess would be because the vine & flowers hang somewhat like a pendulum.....maybe Dave will know !
The word "Mysorensis" caught my eye! Why?
Because I am in Mysore! I heard about this plant and a book's author had commented that he had not found that plant in the place where it is supposed to grow - Mysore (hence its name!). Do you have any seeds to share with me, Sinny?
Thanks for the info, Sinny.
Dinu, Interesting! Logee's sells this vine. You could email them and ask whether they would ship to you. Here is their web site: http://www.logees.com/store/
Thanks Clare, it was not listed there. Maybe sinny could strike a deal for a trade?
Dinu, if you are still interested in this plant, Lalbagh nursery in Bangalore has it and are expecting new arrivals at this time. Apparantly it is available in various colored flowers--white and magenta in addition to the yellow and rust.
