On Saturday, Stormy, our boxer pup started screaming when I picked her up. I finally got her calmed down and saw that she was limping now on her left front leg.
She had an appointment Monday for her puppy shot, so I kept her leg iced at night.
She seemed to be doing better with it, but I wanted to make sure she hadn't broken anything.
The vet x-rayed her and found her little elbow joint had broken. But the news was that they do not do surgery of that nature there, because it is so intricate in a small puppy. So tomorrow morning we are going to have to go on a 2hour plus drive into Birmingham and get the surgery done there.
The only way I can see to do that, is to take the other pup along. The older dogs can stay in their crates for several hours, but the puppy is not housebroken or used to being left alone.
So I am going to have to go along with my husband, who I am afraid might be over-whelmed by himself if Stormy should decide to cry all the way down there.
I am not looking forward to this at all. I think she has to stay overnight there, so another trip Wednesday is coming also.
I feel so sorry for the little girl. She has such a hard time being still. She still tries to pop around like a rabbit and wants to play.
I can't figure out what happened to her. The vet said sometimes the bones are just so thin that they can break just by twisting wrong. She came up the steps fine from her outdoor play, so I can't figure it out at all.
This is her second x-ray! She had trouble throwing up after eating when we first got her and the vet x-rayed her then to make sure her tummy was in the right place. Well, she found a "blockage" and so they did a ultra sound after their lunch and couldn't find anything.
Later that evening I found some tapeworm segments, so maybe it was a tapeworm. After I treated her with the meds her throwing up stopped!
Now this has happened. Maybe I should change her name to Rainbow and she will have better luck.
The picture shows her favoring her left leg.
