I joined a few days ago and have been reading the forums as fast as I can. Everyone seems so friendly! I garden in New York about 30 miles north of the city on a property that goes from part to full shade. Last year I started a perennial bed. This year I'm preparing a woods garden for planting and have been growing seeds like mad. I already asked a question in the Garden Forum. Looks like this will be a fun place to visit.
Hi everyone
Welcome Runew, Fun, fun, fun. Yes it is and very addicting!! Everybody has been trading like crazy so if your looking for something for your perennial bed or for the woods garden check out everyones tradelist's and and just ask!!!! sue
Welcome to DG, Runew! We have some friends who live up "your way" - too cold for me, but I'm a cold-weather wimp! I hope you enjoy gardening "in here"; you're sure to have a great time!
Hi Runew,
Welcome - I'm also new and from your neck of the woods. Isn't this place great? I'm interested in your woods garden, keep us posted!
Thanks, Ruby, I'll check out the seed list as soon as I finish planting the 300 or so I just grew, Phew!
Vols, thanks for the welcome
Cindy, Thanks to you too. I just put down wet newspaper, tons of leaves, tons of humus and compost and have my fingers crossed that my woods bed will be plantable. I plan to put in lots of perennials and bulbs. Tell me about what kind of gardening you do.
I do a little of everything - perennials, annuals, container, vegetables, houseplants. My next venture is to try something in the woods that border the yard, or along our woodland paths. I was thinking of looking into native plants, I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do yet.
Welcome, Runew!
Dave

Thanks Dave, I love your site. I think it's the best thing on the web for gardens. There's a real sense of ease and loads of helpful, friendly people. The best!
Dori, I loved meeting you in the chat room. I'm so sorry it's no more. Thanks for the welcome.
Hi JewelOrchid, thanks for the welcome
Welcome from a west KY veggie gardner. I grow lots of other stuff too....but veggies are my real passion.Glad you found us!
Hi Runew,
I took a peek at your page. Glad to see you got it "up and running" so to speak. Try the journal. You'll love it!
Sharon
Hi there Runew and welcome to DG :-)
Thanks melody. Once upon a time back in New Rochelle, NY I had the veggie garden of all time....75 tomato plants++++. I miss it terribly. We moved to a shady hillside facing Northwest. I refuse to get discouraged!
SMSpear1, I took your advice and started my Journal. I already had a hand-written Journal, so this is a big improvement. Should be finished by about 2010, just in time for the tax-cut to take effect. LOL. Thanks for the welcome.
Hi, Louisa and thanks.

Welcome..so nice to have you here. Your garden plans sound great :)
Trish
Thanks Trish and justmeLisa,
I've been working away at my Journal. My Heavens, I had no idea I had so many plants.
Trish, this site is now my favorite on the web. It's very special.
Ruth
Hi Runew
Welcome to DG
This is the best site with very nice people.
I would love to have a woodland garden one day, I one have one large tree here at our small farm. We moved in Februay and left our gardens behind. So we are staring over,This farm has never had any landscaping in its history. We just got some photos from our local historian which has shown the house at different times, and that the house was bulid in 1901. None of the photos show any plants.
Just can't imagine never having plants.
Mike
Hi Mikepiper and thanks. Sometimes starting over is great chance to try all the things you couldn't try before. Go for it!
Ruth

Thank you Runew, will just visit everyone here at Dave's LOL
We're planning our retirement carefully,as most are these days' We've pretty well decided on a 5th wheel and take our home business on the road, race fans' Also want to go to the Biggest Yard Sale" we viewed on the HGTV channel'That's a MUST for me,love finding treasures and bargaining with people, such fun''
Your woodlands idea,is great, started one myself last year'I have trycyrtis Miyazaki, Formosa,Athyrium Pictums, hostas(August Moon)Astilbes,Peacock orchids etc' I have many different areas, desert, tropicals, zeriscaping, still in progress, containers and giant veggie garden surounded by fruit trees, rasberries(for birds)and scarlet runner beans(Cardinal vines) on the fences,to only name a few'
Please keep us posted on your progress, quite an undertaking, isn't it'''LOL But nothing ventured nothing gained, right? Right''See ya,Sis''Z5(NE KS)
Sis, your gardens sound wonderful. I must have 1/100th of your space, but it's increasing as we speak. Just planted a little bit of the woods bed and more to come. Next spring I'll finish that( as much as any garden is ever finished, which is never, LOL) and start on my next project, a long narrow rock garden.
Thanks for all the kind words.
