Good News

Valley Village, CA

I was able to get the 'Rick Rack' plant for those of you that requested it. Now tell me how to start them. I hope now is a good time. Do they need heat and humidity. or heat and dry. I will have them heal over before I put them into the potting mix. Norma

Norma,
That's GREAT news!

We grow all our epiphytes in warm and not exceedingly humid. We do though mist them occasionally.
They are succulents and we've had rot when they get too humid and cool.
They grow on the sides of trees up in the canopy and so like it fairly windy also.
We have ours under a ceiling fan where they get constant air movement.

Oh Norma, that is great.. As far as I know, you treat it like the other Epi cuttings. Let them callus for a week or so and mist if they look kind of dry. Then pot up in Cactus mix. I don't know if this is a good time or not, the ones I had started were during the Summer.

Mine did not get a chance to bloom (roof rat problems). I would love some if you have an extra cutting. Let me know if it is possible. Thanks.. Antoinette

I'd love some too. I started them in Texas by putting them in dirt..it was so easy.

Okay, I have enough of one kind to give each of you a piece or two, they have been dried for a month, and still look great. I will put them in cactus soil, and put them in my hot house about 70F and some humidity about 40%.
Those of you who think that it is safe to mail them now, then just emaill me privately and I'll give you my address to send the stamps, or money for stamps, I don't think it will be necessary to send them priority mail. Then I have two other forms, that haven't callused yet. But by the time they reach you they would be ready for planting. What sez you? You all tell me what you want me to do. I also have Rhipsalis, how about that as well, just tiny pieces however.
Your servant, and friend, Norma
