Help!
Whatever it is,it's beautiful.
Hi...
Posted in the ID forum. I think it is some species of Lipstick Plant (http://www.gesneriads.ca/genaesch.htm). I remember one my mom had when I was little. Those purple things should be the calyx. A flower should emerge from them shortly.
Thanks eje, you're correct. I have a lipstick plant with different shape leaves. I did not know there were so many different ones out there.

Been watching this to see if you got the correct ID. Glad you know what you have Cindy. It looks like it is going to be a beaut. Hope to see a picture of it when in full bloom.
I am really glad to find out what this is, just last week I went to a mall and this plant was growing all over inside, in bloom. I noticed that it was in terrible need of pruning, so I helped out the plant keeper by pruning a branch that was out of control ;0). The rebel cutting sits in water at my house waiting to take root.
as Eje mentioned, it is commonly known as lipstick plant http://www.plantoftheweek.org/week081.shtml
Cindy, thanks for posting the pictures. Pretty plant.
