Hi...

Posted in the ID forum. I think it is some species of Lipstick Plant (http://www.gesneriads.ca/genaesch.htm). I remember one my mom had when I was little. Those purple things should be the calyx. A flower should emerge from them shortly.

Thanks eje, you're correct. I have a lipstick plant with different shape leaves. I did not know there were so many different ones out there.

I am really glad to find out what this is, just last week I went to a mall and this plant was growing all over inside, in bloom. I noticed that it was in terrible need of pruning, so I helped out the plant keeper by pruning a branch that was out of control ;0). The rebel cutting sits in water at my house waiting to take root.
