We just bought a 28 acre farm in northern Michigan. Twenty acres are in woods and 8 acres are cleared around the house. There is a sump pump in the basement that regularly pumps a lot of water outside. The former owners have it hooked up to these rather ugly pipes that are a few feet off the ground and pumps the water out away from the house. The water falls from the pipe into a big metal can and then flows down a ditch down to a bigger drainage ditch out by the road. Where the water falls down into this can the overflow has created a good sized round depression or hole in the ground. I should take pictures I guess so you can get a better visual of what I'm describing. Next trip up I will.
While exploring some of the out buildings I found one of those old huge satellite dishes in the barn. Someone mentioned to me that you can make a pond out of these dishes. I was wondering if I could somehow put this dish at the bottom of this sump pump flow pipe and make sort of a pond area out of it and decorate it with some rocks and plants etc. The other problem is how to camoflage the ugly pipe. I'm not sure if I could bury it in the ground or not.
I'd like to make a rather ugly but necessary situation into a visually more appealing sight. I have the idea of lining the ditch with small rocks all the way down to the road.
Any suggestions or links would be most appreciated.
satellite dish pond
Loon, how deep is the dish? Remember water heats up when the sun hits it.. as for the pipes how about some morning glories, they grow fast and wil be there for years. I discuise my gas tank that way. go to www.backyardponderingsociety.com, this is a pond club in southern Michigan,we have a lot of members and links, and I 'm sure someone could help. I've got an old dish too, but can't decide what to do with it,may be a waterfall into my pond, I don't know.
