Red Firecracker Plant, San Carlos Red Firecracker Plant, Round-Leaf Firecracker Plant 'San Carlos'
Russelia rotundifolia

Due to not being able to capture all parts of this plant well in one photo, here is a composite which is great on my computer, but the colors are not correct when uploaded. Sorry. The leaves at the base are very small almost like a round leaf fern. The flower stems are very tall. (San Antonio, Tx.)

Nice composite, Hazel. What is the true color, more orange?

Thanks, I worked on it for awhile. In my composite on my computer, the blooms are more of a bright red and the blooms are much more clear in the "Blooms" photo. The blooms in the "Bloom Stems" photos were fuzzy to begin with, but became really fuzzy after being uploaded. The lettering is a consistent yellow, the color of the first "S" in "Stem Structure", not fading out in some areas. The blooms do not have dark areas in them and there are no lines in the blue areas. I know that jpegs do not handle striaght lines and solid colors well, but this would show up after I saved them on my computer. The blue around the photos is bleeding into the photos. After seeing all these flaws, I actually downloaded the photo before posting it. Then, I touched up all of the lettering, etc. The posting looked fine until I uploaded it again. I have had the same problems with a lot of the photos not uploading with the same brightness in colors as the originals (especially reds) and having "antialiasing" effects (squigglies) after uploading. I have not figured out what the problem is. The photos appear to be compressing on the upload even though I have already properly resized them. If you notice, the photos in the composite that are mostly greens look okay. I have been trying to decipher the problem for quite sometime. After expending time and effort, thinking it all looks pretty good and then seeing these problems can be quite disheartening. Many plants I have not posted and will not post after seeing what happens after the upload until I can determie the cause. Because I work with computer graphics a lot and am such a perfectionist, this is really frustrating. I don't think the problem is my computer nor my service provider. George4tx, who has been kind enough to help, and I pretty well ruled these out. But, this is an informational site, not a photo contest site and what I was trying to show is shown. I bet you are sorry you asked after my long winded complaining. :.)

I don't mind at all, to the contrary I enjoy sharing our triumphs and trials. Several of my photos have become fuzzy and lost resolution after uploading as well and it can be frustrating. I noticed yesterday that no matter what plant I looked up, I only got one picture to go with the details, no matter how many were actually posted to it. I will check that out again today.

Seems to be okay now, all the pics coming up.

I was looking for a msaanita photo I posted to refer someone to it on the Plant Identification Forun and I could not find it except in my list of images. So I started checking around and found the same thing you did. I notified them using the "I found an error". I was afraid their server had gotten that bad flu that is going around or that they had decided to have only 1 photo per page (I really doubted this). Then, I noticed that several pics were accredited to someone, but when I right clicked on the photo and went to properties, the photo belonged to George4tx. I was really worried then. I had not known that George4tx had changed his member name until I emailed him. Baa received my messages about the disappearing photos and Dave fixed the problem very, very quickly. It was really spooky seeing only one photo per page, wasn't it?

Yes, it would be a terrible shame to have only one photo. I like to see as many as possible, showing different parts of the plant as well as different colors, etc. Glad it is fixed now...thanks for alerting them about it!
