I wanted to purchase potatoe sets and found myself
drawn to fingerling potatoes. Has anyone grown these before?
What are they like?
Finger Food
Roxroe,
Fingerlings are grown just like regular potatoes. However, I believe fingerlings generally have more eyes on each tater compared to regular taters. I have grown them before (about 6 years ago) and will be growing them again this year for farmers market. Fingerlings are nice b/c many of them have a waxy texture when cooked and they are absolutely the best for potatoe salad, steaming, and roasting. As for yield, they can yield up to 20lbs / lb. planted. A great place to get seed taters from is www.woodprairie.com from up in Maine. They have great varieties and the tubers are top notch. Also try Johnny's Selected seeds also in Maine.
thanks for your info. I just never have seen them or grown
them -
