Where do they come from?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

All of a sudden, look what I found. Guess I'd better wear my glasses while working with the plants. Where do they come from? How do I get rid of them?

I'm a fan of Avid, but if you don't have it, try any miticide. Wouldn't hurt to put it over the sink and hose as much off as you can. Don't you just hate it when they show up from nowhere?

I too, wonder where they come from. Gone for months and then suddenly show up! Avid is the best, but can try other Miticides to slow them down, until they are completely gome.

I think just a couple of eggs can explode into a huge population in a short time. When spraying it's best to spray all the plants in the vicinity of the infected plant.

Is the plant small? There have been some reports that submerging the whole plant in warm water is effective.

Will insecticidal soap work on them also? What is Avid?

Sue, it will help, but probably won't totally get rid of them. Avid is a very expensive miticide but worth every penny it costs. 8 oz. is $100 but it only takes 1/4-1/2 tsp. per gallon of water so it goes a long ways.
