Farmtek GH Good or Bad??????

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Need your opinion on Famtek GH ClearSpan. I have just about talked DH into getting a 20X20 to replace my 12X15 homemade. Need your input.

Thanks,
Honeybee

Honeybee talk harder bigger is better. Don't make him mad though because any is better than none at all. Ernie

Honeybee...got a link to that? That would help.

(I can't stand their website/paper/catalog...takes so long to load or find anything. Can you direct us there with a single click?)

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Shoe,

Sorry, I don't know how to.
I received their sale catalog today. I made sure I left the page open for DH.

Ernie, the only problem with a
bigger one would be the heating.
The 20x20xh12 1/2 ft. has 20ft.
poles on both sides for hanging
baskets. That would clear half
my plants off my benchs & floor,
I would be able to walk from end to end. I can't even get in the door now.

This one comes with a 7 to 10 year life span on plastic, roll up sides & double zipper both ends for $995.00, then another $300.00
for gas heater & then this summer
I will need shade cloth. I don't want to put DH over the edge. Plus I will still have my 12X15 GH.

I am calling tomorrow to get more details. Was hoping someone had one in operation, to see how they liked it.

hopefully this thread may help http://davesgarden.com/t/410038/#top

Honeybee. If you have the page number the ghouse is on I can find it online that way.

From your description it sounds like a good deal. (Just not sure of the materials.)

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Shoe,

GH is in the new sale catalog I got yesterday page 11. I need to
call them, I am just kind of sitting on the fence, I want it
but should I get. My last few good deals haven't been so good.
Wish we had a local place to see
one up & going. If DH had said
no, I would have ordered it. I think he has figured me out, no I order, yes I can't make up my mind.

Let me know what you think.

maybe it is this page https://www.farmtekcatalog.com/lg_display.cfm?page_number=309

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Okay. Found it. Thanks, MaVie!

It looks worth the money, just not sure about how much of a snow load it will handle, which hopefully in your area you'll never have to deal with!

Looks like you'll have to come up with some sort of anchoring system tho. Plus I'd ask them what amount of wind speed is it geared up to take.

I imagine you only have a very short period of time with extremely cold weather, right? If so, perhaps the single layer of plastic will suit you. (Or perhaps you could add an extra layer at some point in time if you need to.)

The purlins that you want to hang baskets from I think will possibly need an upright (maybe two) to support a lot of weight. Those hanging baskets get mighty heavy, especially when watered, and an inch-and-a-half pipe 20 feet long will probably need support. However, if the framework is made from square channel pipe, and not round, it will certainly be more rigid.

If you're still in doubt, or want more info, I wonder if they would put you in touch with another buyer of the same product for more personal feedback.

Shoe,

Thanks for your in-put, some good
points to think about. The books
said heavy-duty 14 gauge 1.66' OD structural steel tubing. DH & I
were wondering how we would
anchor it down, the one we have
has the pipe post concreted in the ground. We were also wondering about the roll-up sides, what stops the wind & cold from leaking in?? So many thing to consider, thank heavens SNOW is not anything
we are worried about, last snow here was March 1993 about 3-4 inches. Tropical Storms are on the top of our list!! Guess better not talk to loud about snow, our temps are going to be mid 20's tonight.

Think I will sleep on it over the weekend. Thanks for your help.

Cindy,

DH is has the next month or so off
work, did you notice how I timed
ordering... So I hope to have it
up before he goes back to work.
Don't think it will be running this
winter, heater stand was on back order, still need to get gas tank &
line set up. Oh, DH will also have
to weld frames for my benches and then there are my raised beds he promised to build. DH will be looking forward to going back to work.

Cindy thanks again for all your help, I would not have order without it.

Thanks Ernie.

Can't tell you how excited I am. I sure hope with this second GH I will be able to move around inside!! DH said it will be packed too by the end of this summer.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Bee Maybe you can't verbalize it but I know we all do and you are urged to enjoy the feeling of moving around because you are right it won't last long unless you never really wantedIt lol. Ernie

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Ernie,

My problem is every time a tree or
plant has a broken branch I just
have to root it. I really don't need the extra plant, but I can't help myself, I know I'll find some one who may want it. Some times
I get carried away!!

Honeybee

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Bee how fitting just came in from green house pruning.

How do you prune a green house? You throw out what you don't really care for or need to save plus any that don't seem to be overwintering well so far and make room for the rest.I would rather end up without aphaids and good robust plants than have loads of Plants that are starved for light and circulation. Ernie

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

You are totally right about that. I promise to be a good girl with this new GH & not junk it up. I
just hate to see anything die.

I really need to do something with
my 2 orange tree & 1 lemon tree.
They take up half the space.

Honeybee
