Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

I was going on line looking for some cheap plastic containers to transplant my brugs into I ordered some ( i thought) and realized It was only one pot!! i canceled that order 1.50 for one pot, and the shipping was 8.00 I know one pot can't weight 1 pound can it? that is highway robbery I was getting some 2.5 gal light weight plastic pots, does any one know where i can get these really cheap I was thinking maybe .25 cents a piece at the max. Boy was i shocked I must be trying to live in the 50's .

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

I found these I am thinking about getting instead of pots has any one used these? I plan on transplanting all my cuttings into the ground this spring so I won't have near the space taken up when not in use. http://www.wormsway.com/detail.asp?sku=GB322

77 1 gallon pots for $30.00, not too bad a price, don't know what shipping would be to you, though.

I have been very happy with amleo.com

Good quality and service. Don't bother paying extra for faster delivery, they come in a few days anyway!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

I wish those of you looking for pots lived a little closer to me. I have access to thousands of them and can get them free. Ranging in size from one gallon up to 50 gals.
I work on a golf course and you wouldn't believe the pots that are just stacked up at the maintenance buildings at both courses. I have brought many of them home and used them myself.
There is even one over there that a 40ft magnolia tree was potted in. You can imagine how big that one is. If it had a roof on it you could live in it!
Some of theses pots are the cheap flimsy type plastic but the majority of them are quite sturdy and some have handles on them.
I'm on my way to home depot to get some potting soil in a few because many of the brug cuttings that I had in 4" pots now need potting up to 1 G's.

Brundidge, AL(Zone 8b)

well i am heading down to my aunt's nursery to get some ex cess one gallons she has but i don't think there is that many i need about 40 thanks to so many of you that was so kind to give me cuttings i am like you David, i have to pot mine up to one gallons this week i am having to water every other day in those little pots, in the green house

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

i'm having that problem also, keeping them watered in those small pots especially since my gh stays closed most of the time now it gets so hot and dry inside.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I use the same place that Mary uses, but I get the cheaper ones. 200 at a time and with shipping it works out to about a quarter per pot.

St Peters Village, PA(Zone 6a)

Springsong, Do you have a recycle center near you? Mine here always has hundreds of all kinds and sizes and they're so happy to get a home for them for free. I just sterilize them in bleach or a product called Geenshield. Check it out.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

now that you mention it Springoaks, our local recycle center always has tons of them also. That would be a good source for them for those of you who don't mind being seen rummaging around in those bins. Our center used to stack them beside the bins for anyone who wanted them to get.I have gotten some from there myself but had forgotten about it until spring mentioned it.

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

One of the garden centers I frequent has a bin out back that people can bring pots they don't want. They are there for anyone to rummage around in if they need pots. Kind of a "finders, keepers" type thing. Might be something for you to check out if there is a garden center near you.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Most any landscape Co has them too - they just empty them on their jobs and bring them back to toss.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

theres a couple threads about pots on the dirt cheap forum. here's one i found. http://davesgarden.com/t/411877/

im glad to know about the recycling center having them- im going to go by there today!

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I get nursery pots of all sizes from some of the landscapers or nurseries in the area.Check with a K mart garden center in the spring..they throw many away.

Rowlett, TX(Zone 8a)

Here is a link to a company that sells on ebay, if you buy 2 you get 1 free..and free s&h. They have all sizes, up to 7 gallon.

Clarifying to say thats 2 bundles..I bought 2 bundles of 1 gallon black plastic pots (10 per bundle)..and will get 10 free. So will get 30 for $25.98...no shipping or handling.

I've been using cut off 2-litre soda bottles instead of the gallon size pots.

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Sue,
Thant sounds like a good deal. We always have 2 liter bottles.

southern, NJ(Zone 7a)

I orderd 200 one gallon pots, and 47 (I think) 4 gallon pots from www.growersupply.com and they should be coming soon, the package weighed 47 lbs, and I had to pay 36 dollars shipping.

springsong -- I really like the idea of the collapsable baggie containers. They are cheap and they will store so nicely!

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

I dont need that many pots but I always need pots for transplanting old and new babies. Luckily my next door neighbor started alot of planting this fall and guess who got to keep all of his pots. : D They range in size from I think quart to 1 g. And today Im going over to some new construction and Im going to get some of those huge pots Ive seen from the trees theyre putting in.

Hot Springs, AR(Zone 7b)

I used my neigbors discarded 22 & 40 pound cat litter containers. They can be used for so much more; storing mixed soils, little green houses, manure tea pot, etc. For plants I drill holes in the bottom and especially like the handles.

the price is still double what you want to pay, but @ $.50 a piece, its doesn't seem bad for the 2.5 gallon size.
