Maybe I imagined this, but I thought I had seen a lovely blue colored datura (minature perhaps) that someone had grown here at DGs. Is my mind really losing it? I've searched through my threads and with a few posts of people now removed, I'm not sure if I imagined it or not.
No Blue Blooming Daturas?
Maybe you are thinking of Missouri Marble, a variegated datura that looked like it had blue blooms, but they weren't really blue. At least mine weren't. They don't come true from seed.
Found it...

Thanks, Brugie ~ that is VERY pretty!!! If what I'm thinking does not exist, I think I'll pursue one of these :) The one I thought I saw and I know now that it probably wasn't datura, was a deeper blue. I'm thinking that maybe MaVieRose had posted the picture this past Fall, but I'm not certain. I thought it was a California member who had posted the beautiful bloom.
Thanks for the link & info :)
Morph did you go to Ma Vie's age and click on all her threads she started? It might be there though Ma Vie often adds her pics to an existing page.
Morph,
I was going to send you a picture of my blue hibiscus to see if it was what you are remembering. This plant's common name is blue hibiscus, but the flower is actually purple. These flowers look bluish because of the lighting.
I think Missouri Marble has white flowers. It must be some other flower that you are remembering because there is no blue Datura in existence.
Here is my blue hibiscus:
Morph,
There is a purple Iochroma, which has small flowers, that you might be remembering. Here's a link: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/55240/Iochroma_Iochroma_cyanea.html
Thanks, Kell, I tried that for awhile and then gave up. Also, I looked through my threads as I'm sure I would have "watched" it. Thanks :)
Clare, that color with the blue hibiscus or the Iochroma by uijung are probably what I remember. Those are the exact blue and very similar in what I remember seeing ~ just gorgeous. Thanks for the links & photos. At least now I can search more effectively for what I'd like to grow this year!!!
I sure do wish there was a datura in that color ~ wouldn't that be beautiful?
Morph,
You are quite right that it would be a beautiful thing to own -- especially if it was variegated with a blue flower! Well, we can dream if we want to. The closest I've seen is the white-flowered Daturas which sometimes get a blue cast in certain light as the sun goes down. I really like blue flowers too. Check out my garden albums at: http://www.picturetrail.com/jccorre. It may give you some more growing ideas!
They have Datura 'Erygium Blue' here http://www.englishgardenemporium.com/perennials2.html It looks like the same ol' double purple to me tho.
LOL, Poppysue! It sure doesn't look blue to me either ~ it looks very familiar maybe with just a new name?
Clare, I tried your link but do I need a password to enter you album? Maybe if I just create an account it will let me enter to take a peak? Thanks.
Morph,
I'm sorry about that. Let's try it again: http://www.picturetrail.com/jccorre
Edited to add:
The period after the link was messing the link up. This one should work.

Great pictures Clare. Love the Plumbago.
Thanks, Clare ~ got right into the site this time. I love your slideshows. I went through all the Datura & the Brugs, too. Both seem to really thrive well in your area! What I wish to have such beautiful, full brugs in my garden! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Which, if any, of your datura produce a nice fragrance? I've only grown the purple (currant swirl I think) and I've never noticed it to have a fragrance like the brugs.
This is one I definitely want to find seeds to sow :) Shirley, did you post this in another thread or email to me? It's very lovely! Anyone else interested in a group seed purchase? Just curious...
I just copied & pasted Datura, "Missouri Marble" to your thread. I would definitely be interested in a group seed purchase. Bring it on!!!
MaVieRose had a very pretty purple dat here rather recently:

I haven't seen a blue.
This one won't grow variegated from seed from what I've read. You have to purchase cuttings or plants.
Edited to say that Glasshouse Works sells this one for big bucks. Here is the URL for it. http://www.glasshouseworks.com/trop-de.html

This place http://www.cottgardens.com/Tropicals.htm has it less than half price of the first link, but still pricey.

Clare, I just had an amazing trip through your gardens. 'Ruby Glow' I need for sure. I printed its photo from the almost eden site. What's the lime green foilage? Your gardens are wonderful. I am so inspired & so impatient. I want my backyard to look like that!
Thanks, Brugie. It's seems to be that way. I've been searching the internet with no luck for seeds on this one :(
My apologies on a possible group seed order!
I think even the best blue datura has only a hint of blue on the edges of the flowers, the photo of the blue one above might be a bit misleading as to blueness.
Morph, which search engine are you using? Try various ones. I have been using "Metacrawler" lately with some pretty interesting "hits".
Patrick's Studio Inc.- Perennials & Flower Seeds is a Canadian source that I found through "Metacrawler". I liked their picture & description, that's why I used it.
Glasshouse Works is a bit expensive, but a group purchase would definitely bring down the price. I have purchased plants from Cottage Gardens and have been very pleased with their selections. They just seem to have a lot of problems with their on-line website. The print always looks garbled to me & over-laps their pictures. Otherwise, they have great plants & wonderful container gardening ideas. Don't forget to checkout the Garden Watchdog too.
P.S. Oh well, I just checked the Garden Watchdog and it showed a different Cottage Garden Nursery in N.Y. The one I'm talking about is in the Mid-West.

Morph, thanks for all of the compliments. I'm glad you like my garden:-) I love the fragrance of all my Daturas, but I guess the white Datura Inoxia and Datura Wrightii are my favorite of all the Daturas. Even the lavender Datura Stramonium smells like heaven to me.
Thanks, Shirley!
I would love to add the variegated Datura to my collection, but I've heard that it has to be propagated by tissue culture.
Back2back, thank you so much for the compliment. If I can get any of my P. Alata cuttings to root, I would be happy to send you a couple. I'm not having much success with rooting cuttings right now. I'm not sure which lime green foliage you mean. Is it combined with the Passifloras on the trellis? I have six Passifloras growing together on that one trellis. I think a Morning Glory slipped in there too. P. Lady Margaret I purchased from Logee's, and there is an unknown Passiflora growing there that I grew from a cutting. The rest of them I grew from seed. There is P. Mollissima, P. Morifolia, P. Amethystina hybrid, and P. Edulis growing with P. Lady Margaret and the unknown Passiflora.
