My first two passion flower vines, won on eaby are coming! a mauve & a yellow. The description said they will be in 2" pots & the vines will be about 6" long. I have so many questions. Should I plant them in 1 gal pots until they get a little bigger? I'm afraid if I put them in the ground they'll be too small to see. Will MG potting soil be okay? What do I stake them with? Would a bamboo stick work? How soon can I fertilize them? Is there a good book or source on vines & climbers for dummies.
Preparing for my new Passion Vines
http://www.passionflow.co.uk/ There is some good information on this site. I'm sure there are lots of places, but I found this one as a link on another site I was just visiting. Congrats on winning the bid on the two passies. You will love growing them. They are so carefree for the most part.
b2b,
Thats whatI do on mine.
back2back,
Congratulations on your Passifloras. I just checked my seed box, and I have some various vine seeds if you want them. Send me an email if you do, and we'll do a SASE.
Don't worry! Passifloras are, for the most part, very vigorous growers and not very fussy. They actually prefer infertile soil, so if you use MG, you might get a lot of growth but sacrifice blooms. I would just put them in the ground where they are to grow after they have filled a one-gallon container with roots. Spring is the best time to plant after the threat of frost has passed. When you get them in the mail, you can gently transplant them to one-gallon containers and stick a small bamboo stick in when you transplant.
Don,
Wow! They look awesome. So healthy and beautiful. Each one of those vines will get very large so you may want to trade one or two of them away. Each vine will bear purple non-edible fruit following each flower with lots of seeds in each pod so you will have plenty of seeds for next year too. I posted a picture below. See all the green fruit hanging on the left? It turns purple when it ripens.
Yep I see them ,got new glasses this week my other bifocals were across the entire bottom half of the lens, these new ones looks like there are just a spot you see out of the bottom, have to turn my head and fix point at what I'm looking at to read or type, they said this is new technology in glasses, well I think there going backwards !!!
She said oh it will take a little getting use to them ,after that you won't even notice the difference!!
right heard that before!!
Clare, would you save me some seed please? I'd love to give this one a go.
Tropicman, yours look great & so organized.
& WOW Clare that's beauful. Did you grow that from seed? And what else is gowing there. I love the lime green foilage.
Shirley, of course, I will.
Poor, Don, I hate getting new glasses, and I hate the fact that I have to wear them. One of these days, I will get laser treatment on my eyes. It's supposed to be able fix nearsightedness and farsightedness to some degree.
Back2back, I have six Passifloras growing together on that one trellis. I think a Morning Glory slipped in there too. P. Lady Margaret I purchased from Logee's, and there is an unknown Passiflora growing there that I grew from a cutting. The rest of them I grew from seed. There is P. Mollissima, P. Morifolia, P. Amethystina hybrid, and P. Edulis growing with P. Lady Margaret and the unknown Passiflora.
The picture below was taken in October, but it has continued to fill out since then.
Thanks Clare....will have to see what I can find for you.
