Moose Jaw's New Years Day surprise...
Beauty and the Beast
Lost a couple of old historical buildings and the last
cash cable trolley system in North America...
Fire is always tragic...but the buildings certainly
have a haunting beauty to them now.

I saw the pictures on the news. It was very sad.
Once again it reminded me that firemen need to be paid a lot more than they are.
That is terrible! How did you get those before and after pics? Were they in the paper?
They were covered with as much ice as the street lamp.
Hi weeds...no I gots me a digital :D

Well that ice picture is just so wierd looking!
It's very different looking down there today...everyone
has a camera in their hand...but it's a somber crowd.
The city just finished spending $700,000 to renovate
that section for the tourists...will prob. try to
rebuild it quickly if they can.
How sad. Saw the story on the national news and local yesterday. Didn't realize the impact at first....
...don't think we did either. Will miss the old Joyner's
store...it had the cash cable trolley system. The clerks
would take the box down from the cable above, put your
money in it and the bill and place the box back on the cable. It would take off through a couple of rooms to
the cash teller where she would place the change and the
bill back onto the trolley and it would magically find
it's way back to the right clerk (even adults were
amazed by it). Walt Disney had offered Ted Joyner a
huge sum of money to purchase it but Ted wanted to
keep it with the store.
Like Liz has said, we saw this tragedy on the news this morn...E.
Hi Roselaine...Did they talk about the trolley system @
Joyner's? I didn't see the National news...what I
saw was early on and Regina's station had a lot of errors
at first. We had a lot of reporters phone the library
to get the history behind the buildings.
CBC morning show has had lots about the reconstruction. Sounds like your community doesn't waste any time getting things done. Glad to know they are going to rebuild. Will they be able to salvage anything of the cash trolley system. It reminds me of an old messaging system we used to have in the hospitals. You could send orders and blood samples and all kinds of things in the tubes.
You are liking that new digital aren't you.
I am loving it :D ...plants are a little difficult to find
right now.
