This is part of the 'crown' of my largest 'Snowbank' plant.
At about 4 1/2" tall right now the height has stalled, but the crown just gets broader and broader.
No blooms right now, but look out when it does again! LOL
Seems the larger 'Snowbank' gets, the easier it is to grow and the better lasting.
I know friends where it is hot have trouble with white the parts browning.
But here it has done well (o:
'Snowbank' Foliage of My Largest
Beautiful foliage and plant!!! I can imagine, what it will look like when Snowbank is blooming.
BEAUTIFUL!! Please tell me what I am doing wrong? What are its' needs?
Your Snowbank is beautiful Alice. Mine is still in a gallon can. I am looking forward to seeing what it does in the Spring.
Alice,
How do you get your variegated brugs to do so well? Mine look so sad and never grow. I have no problems with the green leave brugs.
Daisy
Alice it is beautiful. It will be a sight to behold when it blooms. I bought one and it did pretty well and then I lost it. Maybe out heat is too much for this one. I don't know if I will try it again or not. Yours must love where it is at.
I would love to have a Snowbank that looked like that. It is beautiful. I purchased a small one this Fall, but right now it has no leaves, because a vicious little green cabbage worm came a visiting. Grrrrr
wow at your healthy leaves!!!!--------looked in on my cuttings the other day and in 2 days something had literally skeletonized some large leaves-but ingonored some right next to it?---it was scary looking....
Sylvia, you have to watch out for those worms! lol
I have been experiementing, but don't actually know what is done here that the variegates do well.
Though I do know is the more mature the plant gets .. the more hardy and easier to handle burn, wintering, etc.
This year none of the variegated dropped leaves. Growth has slowed or stopped though. And less blooms.
The glasshouse thermostat is set at 55º. All the brugs seem to like the coolness.
Daisy, my friend in Houston tells me her Snowbank has not done well either.
She said 'too hot'. Do not know if that or not.
Last summer, I took one of my Snowbank plugs and just set (rootball immersed) in the full sun outside pond.
Formed many hair roots. No browning ..and large white margins to the leaves.
I am wondering if the constant water and coolness of the water had anything to do with that?
I will experiement further with more planning this summer.
I have 3 Snowbank plugs in shallow water in a bucket in the glasshouse right now.
These will be the ones I continue in water summer.
Another possible is the high calcium manganese of the ground water I use for the brugs.
Cannot use for the cannas and abutilons ..they do not handle well ..lol
But wondering if helping Snowbank and other variegates' foliage.
Alice it is incredible. You really have a green thumb.
Alice,
Thanks for the tips. I'll try partial shade and find some calcium manganese to add to my manure tea. I have tried full shade & part shade grew very slow with small leaves), full sun (this one died in July.
It does get very hot here in the summer. I can water my plants in the morning by evening they are bone dry and wilted as if they haven't seen water in days.
Daisy
Boy, that is going to be one gorgeous brug when she blooms the next time. You're sure doing something right. Can't wait to see her in full bloom. Should turn me green with envy real quick.
Alice in the greenhouse mine is doing very well! It is under the canopy of the seedlings, I think I will try full shade this summer here to see if that helps here. The foliage is just beautiful, but I had feared after hearing that so many had not done well in the heat, that the one in Houston would not do well.
