Today I moved 6 more of the cuttings I've potted into the sun. I hope it's not too early. We've had a few day of beautiful sunshine. I'm just so anxious to see them bloom. Eventually these are all going into the ground. I just wanted to give them a good start. They've had their second drink of Miracle Grow. Is there anything else I could feed them? I have some Superthrive but I've never heard of anyone using it on brugs. When do you think I'll see a bloom? I wonder who will be the first to bloom. Is there a way to tell? Does leaf size have anything to do with flower size? Sorry for all the questions.
My Brug Babies First New Year
back2back those are so big !! you must be doing something right already !!!they usually won't put on buds till they Y unless the cutting was taken above the Y already but that is unusual, IMO only, I am no expert!! they look gorgeous what variaties are they I have found the sauvleons bloom early then my whiskers cross bloomed then middle summer my CDW bloomed and my janet reno, jean pasco and peaches and cream bloomed late but they were all new cuttings put in the ground in spring last year, so with your extra head start their is no telling!!
I've used Superthrive on my brugs. It can't hurt! I think it helps with the micro nutrients that Miracle Grow doesn't have.
Your plants look great! I bet you won't have to wait too long for blooms. I'm sure they'll be happy in your zone. We'll all be drooling over your flowers before a lot of us can get our plants outside.
Names of the Babies: Charles Grimaldi, Creamsickle, Dr. Seuss, Double White, Equador Pink, Frosty Pink, Insignis Pink, Pink Favorite, Insignis Gold, Jean Pasko, Ollie, Pink Beauty, Rosa Traum, Isabella, Tequilla Sunrise, Spring Peach, Versicolor Peach, Versicolor Orange, Kyle's Giant White, Monster White & my new Sanguinea (sp)
Wow I can't believe I have so many & I can't stop. I definetly need a few new ones to baby. Any suggestions?
I forgot about Frosty!
Is the Tequila Sunrise from me? If it is... I found out the name was wrong after I sent a bunch of them out. It should be 'Gypsy Queen'.
It is from you! Gotta go change that babie's name tag. I'm such a proud mom.
I can't take the suspense! How long until a Y? And then how long till a bud?
Once you get a Y the buds will start coming. A Y depends on the plant and what part of the plant the cutting came from. Some cuttings will bloom when they're really small if it came from above the Y.
Bambi:
I'm AMAZED at the size of your brugs. I got my cuttings at the same time you got yours, at the Oct. Round Up and mine are not even half as big. I fertilize all my plants at least once a week with Miracle Gro and each pot has some Osmocote pellets (time release fertilizer). I've just started to use Superthrive, so far only on new transplants. As we all know plants grow with warm weather. Can it be that were you live is really that much warmer than the Valley where I live?
Joe,
Your my brug expert, I can't imagine that it could that much warmer here. I think I got a little too excited about yesterday's sun! Now it's pouring rain here. Will those babies be okay?
Bambi i must say again, whow!!I have came back to this thread several times to admire your brugs, they do look very healthy!!Thay are so green. I know you must be proud of your self.I am going to transplant my cuttings today to bigger pots, so maybe i will have good pictures to post here soon, also. take care!! and happy gardening!!
amanda
Looks like they are doing very well.
Am I the only person here green with envy that you're putting your plants outside on Jan 1??? You lucky duck!
Well, I got a little too anxious. Today its pouring rain here. Now I'm worried my brugs will get too wet. I almost attempted a rescue at 3:00 in the morning. Do you think they'll be okay.
back2back, it's raining here too, but this storm won't last for more than a day so they will be fine. My concern is for this weekend. It's supposed to snow in the mountains and be very cold, especially on Saturday night. It is predicted to be in the 30's. I think frost is the only thing that you have to protect them from at this point.
I have most of mine outside here in no. ca. It has been pouring here for days. My backyard is mud. The brugs are all fine!! So do not worry. We can get to the 30's here at night, if you are worried it will be too cold, just lay them on their side and throw towels over them all. They should do fine with just a few hours of frost. Mine did! Yours are looking great!
Meiyu told me she uses Super Thrive on her brugs, and as you can see by her pictures, hers are gorgeous.
