My husband wants to grow this artichoke. Does anyone have any "tubers" to spare? I can get to a few plants to trade now, but others would have to wait closer to spring. OR I have tons of seed if anyone would be interested in swapping tuber for extra seeds.

looking for Jerusalem artichoke
Laurrie, maybe try the produce section of your supermarket? Might find some "sunchokes" there!
OhioBreezy, I have grown this plant before here in Atlanta. A word of caution - either grow this in a container or in a place where you want to see lots of Jerusalem artichokes. Those little tubers seem to multiply while you're looking at them. Pretty fall flowers and good large plants. Just beware.
I have extras I can share this spring when they come back up. But I second pins2006 advice (which I got along with my tubers) - they DO multiply, and they ARE big plants. If you're interested, get in touch with me in April or so, and I'll be glad to send some to you for SASE :)
Thank you all so much for the insightful information, we just moved our garden last fall, where we had it tended to flood, yes flood and we didn't get much out of it this year, so off to the back side of the property it went. And behind the "new" garden is a swamp, there is about 15 feet between the garden and the swamp that we want to try and do some of these plantings, so if they do go wild they can only move toward the garden (the way the swampy pond is curved). I will keep in touch and also check the supermarket. Thank you all again

I have plenty if you need some from me.
This is a hedge of sun chokes that grows behind my border. I made the big mistake of tilling over them when I first put the garden in. They came up everywhere! I like them behind the garden. They make a nice back drop. The birds love them too. Funny... I've never been able to get the seeds to germinate.
Very pretty poppysue, I am excited to grow some this year, they say you can cook with them just like you would a potato, or even like water chestnuts. I did find a generous trader who is shipping me some. Thank you all for the warnings and I know just the place for them.

'Chokes are good and good for you,but only plant them where you want them to stay year after year.....they're kinda like the relative that comes for a stay and never leaves........LOL
LOL well I like the way you put that Shirley!! Thanks again for all the warnings, I have a swamp outback and that is where it will go, if nothing else, it certainly won't grow under the water too far or the fishies will eat them LOL
