Common Mullein, Aaron's Rod, Adam's Flannel, Fairy Tale Plant (Verbascum thapsus
That is a surprise... here in Missouri ours bloom in June. The fallen leaves around the base of this plant provide a lovely color and texture contrast. We have a heavy frost this morning. I guess I should bundle up and look for some interesting pics of that...
I was at this location to collect seedpods and was surprised. There were several smaller plants that were putting on growth for later blooming probably in the spring. We had a heavy freeze Sunday night that killed off most of the coleus and other freeze tender annuals. This year despite many light freezes, most of the salvias, coleus, begonia and some lantana were still looking pretty good until now. I had not cut them back so I am late in my winter and spring plantings. I have a lot of pruning and planting to do now.
All I am doing is ordering a few seeds and waiting!
These plants are at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. I'll be waiting for seeds to form and then I'll gather a few. I'll be waiting to see what they do after I plant them too. The leaves in the photo at the base of the plants do add a nice color and texture contrast. I started to brush them off of the plant in order to show the lower leaves, but decided to leave them as nature had deposited them.
Very interestsing plant! I always just considered it a weed but after reading all your information about it in the plants database, I will look at it with a different eye! Thanks.
Happy New Year, roshana. Yes, beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Thanks for your comments.
