Rose 'Ballerina (1937)' (Rosa Hybrid Musk (Shrub))

CHARITON, IA(Zone 5a)

This is one of the daintiest (is that a word?) roses! I planted this rose here in southern Iowa 4 years ago. However I lost it over the winter even with a rose cone and mounded dirt over the plant. I may try it again if I can find room for it again! We used to live in Carrollton, Texas before returning to Iowa in 1990 - but still have very dear friends in Dallas and Collinsville. Love you photo, thanks for sharing!

You are more than welcome! I love taking pictures of my roses, and yes, you are right, I do appreciate the pink ones...
Here is another one for you, it is Chatellion Rose, a Polyantha

How really sweet this one is Melva - looks like it is in a container. Do you have lots of roses that you enjoy growing or just a few to add to your landscape? Kinda dumb question to ask anyone living that close to Tyler, Texas!:)

I have quite a few in containers and more in the ground. I have close to 200 of them, and keep getting more. I may have to get rid of some as I don't know what I was thinking about the work involved in taking care of so many, I don't have a full time gardener and zero help from my DH. We do hire someoneto mow the yard and weed eat...usually once a week in the summer...
Here is another one

This one is so pretty also. I like your sweet pea? also!!!
You must have hybrid teas also? I have no luck with them here due to the cold weather. We are quite windy here also, I just had to go to the horse pasture to retrieve one of my rose cones again. Seems never ending. This year I am trying the method of just mounding new soil onto the crowns and hope this works. Much easier than chasing down cones who have lost their cement block weight. We have lots of wind gusts here during the winter. I planted a big windbreak here in 1998 - but will be another 5 years probably until they are 20' tall at least. The white pines are definately outgrowing the scotch pines and the spruces are not far behind. This will help alot. Do you have Indian hawthorne bushes and nana nandina bushes on your property. I would love these once again in my landscape. I am trying liriope on the south side of our house and it is in it's 5th year and going strong. I don't think it is really for zone 5a. Pushing the envelope is fun sometimes!
