Pollinating passifloras

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Anyone have any success getting fruit during the wintertime
inside?
Having to hand pollinate for the lack of any flying insects.

Shirley,
You're not going to believe what Don goes through every summer to create his Fantasy Island. Every spring, he hauls all his bananas, brugmansias, passifloras, and many other tropical plants out of his green house and plants them in Kansas soil where they grow and bloom and become lush. When you see his pictures, you will think you are looking at pictures of Hawaii or some other tropical paradise. Tropical birds fly around and fountains bubble with water. Then, after everything has grown like mad and summer is coming to an end, Don digs it all up and moves it all into his greenhouse. It's a huge amount of work, but he calls it a labor of love. It's a real joy to see all the pictures that he posts in the summer. He and Rootdoctor should get together and talk bananas! Don, can you show some of your pictures from this past summer?

Love the pictures your tropical garden! You've got a lot of very interesting plants in your collection. Did you grow them from seed or did you put them in the ground as young plants?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Hi Shirley,
Some from seeds some from bulbs rhizomes, and some from cuttings, very few are from plants.
Living in kansas tropical plants are far and few to come by.
Trading and on'line purchasing is where I get most of them.
Glad you enjoyed my garden photos.

Don,
Both picture web sites are awesome! I really like how the pictures blend into each other for the slideshow. It's so hard to believe you put all those plants in this year and took all those plants out just a little while ago. It's truly amazing how beautiful you make your yard look, and I know it's a whole lot of work!

Seattle Burbs, WA(Zone 8b)

Absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your photos!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I can't imagine taking care of all of those plants. The pond isn't yours too, is it? Geez....what a paradise.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

GREAT show!!

You must have a huge GH to hold these all over. Kansas soil must be so fertile! DO you use lots of doo like the Root does?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

No Brugie the pond isn't mine, wish I had the land for a pond,so instead I settle for a little deck pond, with Koi,Goldfish, and catfish as well.
Hi Kell, lots and lots of homemade compost is my secret.

What do the koi do all winter Tropicman?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Stay under the stock heaters in the pond for warmth.
Most of the time the lilly pads stay green as well,I do notice them eating a little algae from the sides of the rubber liner, because I don't start feeding them until they come to me and beg for food, usually about mid april, when the water warms up.
