Milk Bush, Pencil Euphorbia (Euphorbia tirucalli)

Tyler, TX

I have a Pncil Cactus and it is getting bigger and bigger. It is in the green house, can I cut it back safely?

You better protect your eyes and skin before cutting it, the white sap can be very dangeround. With proper protection, you can cut it in any way you want, it will most likely grow back (and if you leave the bits cut alone on the ground, there´s a high probability that they will root also).

I have one of these plants that I took a cutting from, put it in soil and was hoping it would grow, but so far nothing. I have it here at work and I wonder if I need to take it home to sunlight instead of floresent lighting of my office? Any help to get it growing would be greatly appreciated.

dml from Massoula, MT: you cannot put cutting directly into soil. You must put cutting into water, keep water clean and wait for the cutting to sprout roots. It may take a while. I did not know that the white sap was poisonous! I have had mine for over 14 years. Have made many cuttings and planted after roots formed in water. Everyone I know has one of these "stick plants" as i have called it for all these years. They will grow inside, outside, flourescent lite, shade, full sun or partial sun. Just be careful to get it used to the lite change before leaving it in a new place. Hope this helps!
