Citronella blooming in the greenhouse

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

The Citronella brug plant I received at the NERU is in bloom. I don't know who gave it to me. Would the previous owner please identify yourself so I can thank you for this lovely bloomer?

I am suffering from Brug Envy! And Greenhouse Envy!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh Padre, it's beautiful! I have been waiting for it to bloom for someone--now please tell me more about the scent--does it smell like Citronella or Lemon?
I sure hope mine blooms this spring...Can't wait.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Congrats Padre! I might have brought one of these to the NE roundup... I had an extra plant rooted. Maybe it ended up going home with you? Mine didn't bloom this year. Hopefully next year it will. It's asleep in my basement now and looking pretty skimpy. I'm interested to hear about the fragrance too. Your plants sure look healthy.

Padre, I think this one is so beautiful and can hardly wait to know what the fragrance is like.
Do you run supplemental lighting in the GH ?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh Alice, glad to hear you have it too!
Surely you'll tell us of it's scent?

I must wait months....

St. Louis, MO(Zone 6b)

I went out to the greenhouse this morning ( 8 am) to smell the citronella. The aroma was very faint, not lemony at all. If anything it reminded me of an Easter lily. I have no supplimental lighting in the greenhouse. Poppysue, a belated thank you for the plant. Would you believe that I thought 'Citronella' was the name of a species of some plant other than brug and did not fertilize it as a brug until one evening I came across the name in someone's string and then I rushed out, apologized and gave it some TLC, as all good brugs deserve. Obviously, it accepted my apologies and smiled for me :-)

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

But you'll smell it again after dark just to make sure?
I heard this was a very fragrant one...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just got cuttings of this one. It will be fun to watch it grow up to look like Padre's bloom. Very nice.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Lovely Padre. Congrats

city?? lol sticks, AR(Zone 7a)

I had a cutting bloom from that this fall---to me it smelled a litle like lemon and a litte like shaving cream. not unpleasent, but a bit startling. super nice greenhouse Padre------I think I would have to have a hamock out there, cuz i wouldnt want to come inside.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Congrats Padre, you are a good brug Daddy!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Congratulations on all your blooms Padre! This is one that I have had several cuttings of and find it difficult to root. Just don't know what I am doing wrong. I know I sent out several to others and kept one but it did not root. I know sometimes it can just be the cutting that won't root and there is nothing one can do about it. I am so glad to see you enjoying your new hobby.

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

mine is growing very well in the gh and should be large enough to bloom by spring if it continues to grow at the current rate that it is.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

David, you have sone so well with all your brugs. You must have 2 green thumbs. Glad to see you home safe.

catsmeow, Brugnanny is right! Padre, isn't that a greenhouse at a school or something? I would not be able to stand being away from my brugs for more then a few hours :D

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

David, what size pot is that? a one gallon? your brugs look real healthy, what is that succulant thing next to it? It looks cool!

Murrells Inlet, SC(Zone 8a)

That brug is in a one gallon pot and the succulent plant is a mini century plant and it's planted right in the floor of my gh.It's beeng rowing there for over a year now and seems to be thriving. I don't know the variety of the century but it is something that I bought from lowes.

southern, NJ(Zone 7a)

Cool, I am going to lowes tomorrow I will look for a few :) thanks

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

Padre, your white flowering Citronella is just lovely. Before I enlarged I thought from the name it was a true lily. Isn't it fun to have brugs blooming this time of year. Congratulations on your success. Donna
